If you want a sim to behave properly with the aspirations and traits you pick than it's best to concentrate on those traits only.
You already have control with traits and aspirations depending on what you choose.
If my Sim is lazy I don't need the athletic career toggled because I wouldn't choose it. Grilled cheese, location, family( lazy mom) aspirations...and so forth could work if you pick traits that don't conflict with each other or the aspiration.
I have more than enough traits in my game including hidden traits but they don't work if they conflict with an aspiration or each other.
The Food aspiration could add Professional Pastry Chef or Restaurateur.
The Creative aspiration could add Professional Model or Fashion/Interior Designer...and so forth.
I find that the more DLC you own the more traits and aspirations you have in the game. EA continues to add new aspirations with EP's.
