I've been playing since '99. A lifelong fan, I have found this to be one of my favorite past times and have teenage kids who have learned to love it as well. I have a giant collection clear back to the original and I display it with joy, especially when the younger generation can see just how far back SIMS goes! This being said I'm so disappointed in the Sims 4 and I have spent a better part of the last several years TRYING to change my own mind. I've invested a lot of money into owning 80% of the collection hoping that it will get me past the parts I just don't like, and I just can't bring myself to enjoy and STILL find that'd rather go back to Sims 3 for the overall functionality of that game.
While the graphics, the updated game play and modernized building and objects options are pretty great, there are still some larger factors that override this making original simmers going back to older games.
I know I'm not alone when I say one of the major factors that make Sims 2 and 3 so great are the large worlds you can create and build. The lot additions, the ability to create the Town and not just a neighborhood. Sometimes the best part about this game is getting lost for an entire weekend in creating more than a home. Another factor is the ability to see your world as a whole and watch your Sim travel around it. This isn't something that's easily overlooked for people who have hung onto YEARS of this game play. While I see that new and fun is key, it's not just about converting some of the expansions. Please consider this for your fans that have invested years into this game. We're originals. Unfortunately, I cannot get my money back for a series of games I really cannot find joy in, but I know I'm not alone in asking for increased world control. It MAKES your town more alive.
You certainly hear your fans and it's obvious when you bring favorite expansions or added SIM features.
Some other GREAT sims 2 and 3 additions to roll over:
Careers that have you do missions
MORE career options that have you interact with the town
Supernatural (lets face it the witches are JUST as great if not better than vampires)
