Forum Discussion
Welcome @HazelBoo968 I hope you'll find AHQ as useful and inspiring as many of us fellow Simmers do. You can add your thoughts, share your designs and get help with any game problems.
With some of the issues you have in your game you might find this link helpful.
These are our bug reports where we report issues and help the Sims team identify bugs that need to be fixed. It's all divided up by packs to make it easier to navigate. When we give our platform and installed content info it helps the team to replicate and hopefully fix as many as they can. If you see any issues here that are also in your game you can join any bug report by going to the first post on page 1 and clicking the Me Too button. You can also add a reply if you want and complete the bug report template that should pop up for you. Every now and then we'll see a Laundry List of upcoming fixes so we know what's likely to be addressed by the next game patch.
Here's a guide too that you might find useful, just to explain the different categories on AHQ.

With the eating meals together issue you're having, if you have Parenthood you can set dining tables with place settings. Once that's done, Sims will automatically go to the set dining table to eat together. It does mean that the table has to be set for each meal though.
If you have a child Sim with a parent who doesn't live with them, depending on the age of the child they will be able to invite the parent over by themselves or meet up with the parent themselves. If you have Get Together you can also add family members to a club and travel together as the club for family gatherings. Everyone will attend as it doesn't require an invite.
As @OzSimsFamily says, you can lock doors and computers to your household or individuals. It's the very first thing I do when starting a new household as it really annoys me too. I also set Front doors to No Trespassing too so I don't get uninvited guests.
With your lagging problem I share those frustrations and there are things that can help, if you have a lot of items in previous Sims household/personal inventories or saved items in your library it can help lagging to clear those. I'm on Xbox Series X and I clear those regularly as well as keeping an eye on Other Households as excessive amounts of Townies can also slow the game down.
Hope this helps!
