Get To Work Doctor Career - Can't Ask Employees For Help

I can't figure out if this is a bug or if it is by design. I have two sims; one sim went to university for the doctor career so she started out at level 8 doctor career, and the other sim went to university and started at level 8 scientist career. My scientist sim can direct employees to do certain tasks, but I do not get any such options for my doctor sim, which kinda stinks because the doctor sim actually needs a ton of help. When I go to work with the doctor sim, patients are constantly leaving because they wait too long. There are already patients sitting on the beds when I get there, and I only have time to help about 3-4 of them in a single workday. There are other sims working with me and one is labeled "assistant" and I feel like I should at least be able to direct them to check in the patients, but they just stand there or sit on the computer all day. Is it supposed to be like this? I just want to make sure it's by design that my coworkers don't help me and that so many patients don't get to be seen.

Another thing to add to this. I can't ask my employees to do anything, but also the nurse will stand there and talk to a patient that I'm trying to help all day long, to the point where I can't diagnose or talk to the patient because the nurse is casually talking to the patient. And then it affects my work performance when I don't have enough diagnoses. I can't enter build mode to move the furniture which is the only way I know how to move people. It's extremely infuriating.

  • If you are able to use mods in your game there are some solutions I have found

Using the MCCC mod by Deaderpool, you can click on a a nurse or doctor in the hospital and use a self-command to get them to perform some basic work functions.

You can also use the Keep A Doctor At Hospital mod by LittleMsSam/Scumbumbo in the early part of your medical career so that they can help when you are  just an orderly or nurse

The mod  Better Hospital Staff by Simvasion allows to patients to be automatically processed into beds and they will get fed. Doctors won't help you with your diagnosis tasks, but they will appear to be checking on patients.

@hehodsonIt would be good to be able to give directions to fellow doctors, orderlies and nursing staff as your Sim progresses up the ranks in the Get To Work careers. This system would make this pack perform like a management game, your Sim becomes the Chief of Medicine and manages staff and hospital logistics. This would be quite fun. Updating this system for Doctors would be beneficial for console players who cannot rely on Mods.

Helpful tip: To enter build mode for the Hospital or Science Lab: Ctrl+C, then type bb.enablefreebuild

  • @hehodsonIt's unfortunately by design, but it doesn't mean we have to think it's a *good* design choice. It is very frustrating. In another thread somewhere about this career, I placed a chart to help with diagnosing patients faster (I'll attach it here as well). There are also a lot of other good tips there by other simmers. I'll try to find it and post the link here.

@simsplayer818 Thank you! I'm very visual and can't be bothered to look through essays to double check my theories, lol. I'm glad it's helped others as well. You also had a lot of great points in that other thread. 🙂
  • To get the nurse to move I usually initiate the Go Away command and the nurse automatically starts walking away from the patient and then I cancel the command before actually carrying it out (didn't want to make any enemies with my coworkers).
