Life & Death Critiques

I have enjoyed what I've seen thus far but I do have a few constructive criticisms

The Big Ones

  • Fog -  Really?! We couldn't get fog as an unlockable weather? Don't you like the idea of giving those who don't have it another incentive to purchasing Seasons? People have been complaining about not having Fog or Hail since Seasons came out and here was the perfect time to have added fog.
  • The Bell Tower should NOT have been a Rabbit Hole - It should have had something you could build
    • You know so that we could place one in other Worlds
    • Finally have gotten the spiral staircase after 10 years
    • Perhaps have made little Bell Ringer Clubs
    • Had different chimes to fit different areas
    • Maybe placed it into a building we built
  • The Grandfather Clocks are still just decorative - LAME - Sims 2 had chimes and you could wind it and it showed the time. SIMS 2 in 2004 - 2008 for crying out loud. This game just wants for ambiance. By this time we should have had sound effects for
    • Cuckoo Clocks
    • Grandfather Clocks
    • Mantle Clocks
    • Old School Winding Arm Clocks
  • Not being able to leave tributes at the graves (This is a really big one) - Really? Pretty big omission for a pack that is about honoring the deceased.
    • No Coins thats a tradition in several cultures
    • No Candles
    • No Bouquets
    • No Single Roses (Black, Pink Red) or Calla Lilies
    • Not being able to take Rubbings of the Graves. That is hobby for some folks. For others its a form of loving tribute
  • Sad that there is little in the way of Community Lots I honestly don't like all the shell building no matter how attractive they are. It would have been nicer to have just built a few empty community lots and let us decide what goes in it or have placed the casket vendor inside one. Seems a little inappropriate of having him sell his wares in the town square
  • The Graveyard Caretaker Needs more to do - There is literally a whole channel on Youtube devoted to the refurbishment of old headstones and a pretty decent following for that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8PtHWg0E5M
  • No Specific Pet Urns or Head Stones - Please stop ignoring Pets LAME
  • Honestly I would have put the Fortune Teller back in the game and expanded their divination tools to Tarot & Tasseography  as well as the ones they had before in Sims 3.
    • We could join the Career in Sims 3. Bringing that career and skill set back would have not only enhanced this pack but added a bit to Paranormal Stuff and all the other occult packs.
    • Fortune Tellers are human crossroads for almost all occults as you see from old horror films. Need to talk to someone on how to handle a Werewolf curse you go to talk to the old lady at the caravan.
    • We just got those little Tarot cards and thats all
    • Given that I think the little central area where they have the tarot cards and the funeral stuff feels more like town fair I think it would have been better as a strictly Fortune Teller are with the caravan and the music. They could have used some of the shell buildings for a far more respectful handling of the funeral things.
    • Just a bunch of missed opportunity - It's not too late though there is still plenty work with
      • Career Branches - with career appropriate attire depending on the branch
        • Think werewolf movie fortune teller vs Sylvia Brown
      • Divination Skill
        • Aura Reading
        • Palm Reading
        • Star Charts & Horoscopes
        • Tasseography
      • Practical Magic
        • Charms & Wards against Occult Creatures and the evil eye
        • Gris-Gris Bags
        • Love Potion Number 5
        • Matchmaking
      • Cool Buy/Build
        • Beaded Doorway
        • Caravan either the Rabbit Hole or build items to make it yourself
        • Caravan appropriate furniture (Tiny Home with more Romany flavor)
        • Fortune Teller Tea Set
        • Caravan appropriate Music Station
  • You should have added unlockable Funeral Arrangements that would have shown up under Flower Arranging to give it a small refresh. Missed Opportunity. Same as how you missed Ikebana in Snowy Escape and Flower Leis in Island Living. Corsages in High School Years. Bouquets & Boutonnieres in My wedding Stories. Ignoring past packs to me denotes a general sense of apathy and lack of courage. Refreshes are popular and giving unlockable features to past packs only increases the value of the all packs involved in the eye of the consumer.
  • The Olive Spector and Grim relationship missing and her son not being Grim's is a huge bummer. Where are her exes ghosts?
  • I just realized the single Season thing. I think the Ghost side of things would have been fine to be single season but the living side not so much. I have had this same complaint though since Sims 3. Sims 2 gave us the ability to set the seasons in neighborhoods and that was an excellent choice that should not have been let go of. At the end of the day this game is meant to be a sandbox game so giving us the ability to make more choices is almost always a good thing.  That being said I think its perfectly ok for Devs to pre set the best seasons for a world to show it as the Devs intended because you are the artists after all, but give us the tools to play around with if we so choose.
  • I think it would have been a better way to go in the making of the will if it had been an interaction where you set down at the desk of the Solicitor and they hand you a form and it goes into a window but made up like a paper form. We click some boxes to set aside money, property - the home, business, rental etc. the heirlooms and I think I would have added Jewelry to be able to be bequeathed. At least the engagement/wedding ring at the very least. Later on if we get them Cars.

Small Critiques

  • Lady Ravendancer's Crystal Ball still hasn't added Clear/White or Black Crystal. I thought this pack was a good opportunity for you to expand on the colors since we don't have as many tools as we got in Sims 3 for customizing.
  • There isn't a set of glass double or single doors to match the new windows and ceilings for the Sunroom/Greenhouse/Conservatory pieces. I feel like there should have been the doors we got just don't seem right especially if they are interior doors
  • I think we didn't get any new Recipes but I hadn't checked just yet. Which is kind of a missed opportunity if not since Romania literally has recipes dedicated to funeral services
  • No matching toilet to the bathroom set?
  • Ghost Train is great (in addition to) Ghost ships would be fantastic
  • We should have a turn on/turn off creaking gate sound affect

I like some of the suggestions. I think the writing of the will should have been more of an interaction instead of pop-up menus from the inventory. Instead of seeing my sim writing in a journal to make bucket list items, we could have sims write a will and put that in a box. Like even at Family Day, the inheritance lawyer just gives you the will in your inventory. And yes, including flower arranging would make sense to make funeral flowers like you can make a wedding bouquet (cross-pack with My Wedding Stories). Pets was a huge oversight! I would have love pet funerals and specific headstones.

I think a community lot for Funeral Homes - both to plan a funeral but also for living sims to write a will and for the reading of a will by sims. I like they had a graveyard lot type so we can start housing our deceased more. Reading of a will is a lost opportunity, there's no event or place for that to take place right now. My sims should be able to make that a short event where they can read, talk, reunion, etc.

I disagree about the perpetual Fall as a big deal. The SimGurus explained it perfectly, the world is stuck in between life and death which is like Fall. I think it would have been glitchy/failed if they had a toggle to allow snow to be in Ravenwood. Also, this pack is not focused on seasons, so that would be a bit out of place. Other worlds, like Sulani, also have permanent weather and they didn't introduce a toggle menu for that.

Technically the reading of the will usually took place in a solicitor's office or at a private home irl. I would have liked a solicitor's office Community Lot where the making of the will could be handled in a less county fair way.

In general I don't care as much about the neighborhood have perpetual  fall more that I dislike the fact we don't have the ability to set the seasons ourselves. Truth be known I prefer to have a lot more control over the game than we have.

Despite my lengthy list I largely like the EP.
