Moonlight during New moon

I have wondered why there is moonlight during New moon, that is when no moon visible. Shouldn't it be dark, or at least darker than it is?
I have attached an image taken on a moonless (New moon) night at 1:26 AM in an area with no artificial light sources nearby, and it is quite bright and shadows are cast (by what)?

crocobaura  Yes, I am aware of that some may find current light level fine, even though it may not be realistic. But usually one does not venture to areas without artificial light during nighttime, in other areas there will of course be streetlight and light from buildings.
Some may have trouble seeing the screen due to too much darkness, but a solution to that could be some kind of brightness-slider in the settings.

  • If you ask me I think there is too much light at night, particularly in some worlds, it feels more like late evening than midnight or later. I don't mind it too much because I can see well in game, but I agree that nights are not dark enough.
