Bigamy is illegal so marrying more than one SIM will never happen. You can however date more than one with no ill effect from each other if you have set the correct romance options in CAS.
Polygamy is legal in some countries, but if we are only going off of US laws, gay marriage wasn't legalized until 2015 but has been possible in the Sims since 2009.
It happened in my game. A woman married a man and shortly after her mother-in-law burst in expressing her love for the woman and they married. It was autonomous through the game.
