Please Add a Real Posing, Group Photography, and Family Album System

Photography could be one of the best storytelling tools in The Sims 4, especially for family and legacy players, but right now taking a meaningful family photo is far more complicated than it should be.

I regularly create photography studios in my saves, with spaces for weddings, children, babies, families, and seasonal portraits. I also love taking Sims to parks, beaches, vacation destinations, and other meaningful locations for photographs. Unfortunately, taking a portrait of an entire family often requires custom poses, teleporters, multiple mods, precise placement, complicated menus, and a great deal of trial and error. Even then, someone may be missing, standing in the wrong place, looking away, or wandering off before the picture is taken.

Mods can create beautiful results, but a basic family photography system should not depend on mods and console players do not have that option at all.

I would love to see photography expanded into a complete posing, group photography, and photo-album system.

Families grow. Children age up. Sims move away. Homes are renovated. Pets and grandparents eventually die. A family portrait should be more than temporary wall decoration; it should become part of that family’s story.

The current system can produce nice photographs, but it does not adequately support large families, extended families, important events, or long-term generational storytelling. Players have created complicated mod-based systems because there is clearly a demand for these features.

A legacy game deserves a true legacy photography system: one that lets us gather the whole family, take the picture without fighting the game, organize those photographs into albums, and pass those memories down through generations.

An Integrated Posing Mode

We need a simple way to pose multiple Sims together without teleporters or complicated setup.

Ideally, we could:

• Select an entire group from the active household, other households, invited guests, or Sims currently on the lot.
• Photograph larger groups, not just two or three Sims including extended families, wedding parties, reunions, clubs, school groups, and multigenerational households.
• Include infants, toddlers, children, teens, adults, elders, cats, dogs, and horses.
• Choose from pose categories such as family, couple, siblings, friends, formal, casual, wedding, maternity, graduation, holiday, silly, and candid.
• Assign individual Sims to specific positions within a pose and easily swap them.
• Preview the pose before confirming it.
• Move, rotate, or slightly adjust the entire group.
• Use poses designed for standing, sitting on the floor, chairs, benches, sofas, beds, picnic blankets, and other objects.
• Tell everyone to look at the camera, smile, use a selected expression, or look at another Sim.
• Keep Sims in position until the player ends the photo session.
• Ask another sim on the lot to take a picture.

The game could offer prebuilt compositions for different group sizes. For example:

• Two parents and a toddler
• Two adults and three children
• Grandparents with grandchildren
• Adult siblings
• A couple with children and pets
• A large extended family
• A wedding party
• Several generations gathered around a sofa or bench

It would be especially helpful if poses were identified by the required age groups and number of Sims before selecting them.

Better Group Photography

The Moschino tripod, subject markers, backdrops, and studio lights were a promising beginning, but the photography system needs to go much further.

A photographer should be able to select all intended subjects from a list and use a real “Take Group Photo” interaction. The system should recognize the selected group rather than losing someone because the game only offers certain nearby Sims.

We also need:

• A self-timer or remote shutter so the photographer can join the photograph.
• Portrait, landscape, square, and wide group-photo formats.
• Better camera-height, zoom, crop, and framing controls.
• The ability to take several photographs without resetting the group after every shot.
• A choice of poses and expressions while looking through the camera.
• A way to photograph Sims from other households without temporarily adding them to the active household.
• Reliable photographs of toddlers, infants, pets, and mixed-age groups.
• An option to save the photograph to the photographer’s inventory, a selected Sim’s inventory, the household inventory, or an album.
• The ability to order additional copies and print a photograph in different sizes and orientations.

Photography should also be incorporated into events. Weddings, birthdays, graduations, family reunions, vacations, baby showers, school dances, and holidays could all include an optional “Gather for Photo” interaction.

Let Us Turn Screenshots into In-Game Photographs

Camera Mode often gives players much more freedom to compose a beautiful scene than the photography camera does. We should be able to select one of our saved screenshots and convert it into an in-game photograph.

That photograph could then be:

• Placed in a frame
• Added to a photo album
• Printed in different sizes
• Displayed on a digital photo frame
• Given to another Sim
• Marked as an heirloom

Players should not need outside programs or custom-content tools simply to bring a photograph they took in their own game back into that game.

Real Family and Personal Photo Albums

The Sims 2 understood how important photographs could be to storytelling. I would love to see The Sims 4 build on its family story albums, captions, vacation photographs, and physical albums.

Households could have a shared family album, while individual Sims could also create personal albums. Players should be able to:

• Add a title and caption to each photograph.
• Automatically record the date, world, lot, and occasion.
• Tag every Sim and pet shown in the photograph.
• Organize pictures into wedding, baby, childhood, vacation, holiday, graduation, reunion, memorial, or custom albums.
• Choose a cover and album style.
• Place physical albums on coffee tables, bookshelves, or display stands.
• Sit together and look through an album.
• Reminisce about a person, place, or event.
• Order copies for relatives who live in other households.
• Give an album as a wedding, birthday, graduation, or Winterfest gift.
• Pass albums down through generations as family heirlooms.

Albums and tagged photographs should remain connected to the family even after Sims move out or die. A grandchild should be able to inherit an album containing pictures of grandparents, childhood homes, weddings, vacations, and earlier generations.

It would also be wonderful if a Sim’s family-tree page could include a player-selected portrait and links to photographs in which that Sim has been tagged.

The Sims is a game about lives, relationships, homes, and the passage of time. For legacy players, photographs are how we preserve that history.
