The wording is ambiguous - I was under the impression that this would reinforce the Focused buffs. Either way, is that really my best solution? Have my Sim take a shower every time he gets hyperfocused (which is often)?
@HeroicJayNo it definitely doesn't reinforce it. It clears it completely. Perhaps that's why it was added along with the trait to give an option to get rid of the focus.
I get my Sim with that trait to do anything that builds skills (because that sets off the 24hr Focus) in the evening, then go to bed. When they get up in the morning they have around 18 hours Focus left if I don't want the Focused Buff I get them to take a Soothing Shower and it's immediately gone until they next practice a skill or carry out an interaction which gains skills.
Perhaps the ultimate option is to buy a Retraiting Potion for 5000 reward points I suppose and clear the trait altogether.

Sorry, but I just had my sim take a Soothing Shower while Dedication was active. It's still active. In fact, it's got 23 hours on its timer - I wasn't paying attention to how much time was on the timer before the shower started, but at least that shows that it didn't reduce the timer any significant amount.
EDIT: Tried again. It now reads 22 hours remaining - probably only due to the shower animation's time.

@HeroicJay I'm not sure that should be happening, have you tried testing it without mods? Testing on my Sim, she stops being focused and becomes Inspired instead, until she does something to achieve skill points. So for example if she starts cooking/gourmet cooking. Once they start working towards a skill again it begins.
Here's the Sims Wiki Guide definition:
".... Sims can take a Soothing Shower, which will give them the +2 "Clear Mind" inspired moodlet...."
I'm on Xbox Series X so no mods/cheats. I first discovered it while testing for another thread where we were trying to obtain maximum long lasting focus and I wasn't at all happy the shower washed it all away!
Perhaps the Retraiting Potion is the answer after all if your Sim achieves the 5000 points required. There is a cheat for that which I haven't tested (I'm on console and we lose our trophies) I found it on Carl's Sims Guide but you may have used it before. So with Control + Shift + C testingcheats on.
"Gives a Sim x amount of satisfaction points with which you can buy rewards. Sims.give_satisfaction_points 5000"
That's if you want to free your Sim from it altogether anyway now you've tried out the new trait if it's not for you. Particularly if this is a legacy Sim for you.

I have NEVER, literally never, used a Sim mod. This user is not mistaken. The shower does absolutely nothing.

My sim is so focused all the time I can’t get playful or flirty enough to complete acting prep tasks ☹️
