QoL Suggestion: Add an In-Game Option to Delete Cache Files

This is a suggestion aimed at improving the game's accessibility and troubleshooting process, especially for players who may not be comfortable digging through file directories. It's about a common fix for many issues: clearing the game's cache.

  1. What area of gameplay is your feedback about?
  • Game Options / Settings Menu (User Interface)
  • Technical Performance & Troubleshooting
  1. What works well right now?
The game's support system and community have done a great job of documenting the standard troubleshooting steps. For players experiencing glitches, lag, or strange bugs, "Delete your cache files" is a well-known and often effective first line of defense. The process itself, once you know how to do it, is straightforward.
  2. What isn’t working or feels frustrating?
The major frustration is that this vital troubleshooting step is hidden outside of the game. Players are forced to:
  • Navigate to a specific folder deep within their computer's file system (Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4).
  • Manually identify and delete several specific files (like localthumbcache.package and the contents of the cache folder).
  • This process can be intimidating for less tech-savvy players and is an easy step to mess up if you delete the wrong thing. It feels like a core part of game maintenance that should be handled by the game itself.
  1. What new ideas or improvements would you suggest?
I suggest adding a new, clearly labeled button within the Game Options menu to handle this automatically.

A perfect location would be under the "Game Options" > "Other" tab. A new option could be added:

"Game Performance & Maintenance"

  • [Clear Game Cache]
    • Button Description: "Clears temporary game files. This can help resolve performance issues and glitches. It is recommended to do this after installing new game updates or custom content. The game will restart after this action."

Clicking the button would automatically locate and delete the correct cache files, then prompt the player that the game needs to restart to complete the process.

  1. Why would this improve your gameplay experience?
This would be a massive quality-of-life improvement for several reasons:
  • Accessibility: It makes basic game maintenance accessible to all players, regardless of their technical knowledge. Everyone could easily perform a standard troubleshooting step.
  • Safety: It eliminates the risk of players accidentally deleting important save files or other critical data while trying to clean their cache.
  • Efficiency: It streamlines the process, making it a quick, one-click action instead of a multi-step, out-of-game task.
  • Proactive Play: It would encourage players to perform routine maintenance, potentially preventing issues before they start, especially after updates.

This is a simple, backend change that would have a huge positive impact on the player experience by integrating a common external fix directly into the game's interface.
