Reconsider Ghosts' CAS Filters

I will say this:

That's a great detail that the selection of death types depends on the age and occult status of the sim.

However, with this detail, some things got overlooked there, thus bringing more issues.

The thing about the age filter is that it's a hard filter: if the sim is in the incorrect age, the trait won't get applied. This is a soft filter for occult types: cannot be assigned in CAS, but can be assigned to anyone in appropriate age with cheats. But the issues with the age filter:

  • The biggest thing here is with children.
    • Children have 2 ghost types available (Fire and Drowning), but have 7 ways to die (Fire, Drowning, Meteorite, Steam, Pufferfish, Freezing, and Overheating). So, if a child dies by freezing, the game runs the usual death functions, but as it can't give the child the correct ghost trait, the child won't become a ghost after death.     • Because the wishing well gives a random ghost trait (more on the issue here [RGSP] Wishing Well Ghost child turned back to human/No more ghost children ), it gives these issues related to children:
      • If a ghost child gets a Negative outcome for Wish for Life from the wishing well (change ghost type), they have a high chance of becoming a non-ghost.
      • If a child gets a Death outcome for Wish for Youthful Vigor, there's a high chance that the child won't become a ghost despite the game telling they're a ghost now.
      • If a sim gets a Death outcome for Wish for a Child, there's a high chance that the new child won't be a ghost despite the game telling you they're one.
    • Children that died by other causes or were other ghosts before the game was updated, they were either aged up to appropriate age (usually teen) or became a non-ghost (mentioned in two previous links).
  • Pets that aren't elders lose their Death by Old Age trait. While that would be fine as it was usually cheated on, there's a pre-made adult ghost dog named Captain Whitaker who will no longer be a ghost. More on this issue: [OPEN] [CD] Captain Whitaker is no longer a ghost 
  • Because Sulani Elementals are always generated with Death by Old Age trait, the elementals summoned will always be elders now because they won't pass the sim_filter requiring them to be a ghost.
  • Theoretically, a Death outcome for the Romance wish might bring forth a sim that isn't a ghost (because they may get equipped with Death by Old Age trait). However, the wish isn't working and it has been reported here: wishing well doesn't work anymore 
  • Some ghost traits have unnecessary pack requirements. For example, Death by Vending Machine requires Snowy Escape (even though it's base game now) and Death by Meteorite requires Werewolves (even though it has been brought into base game).   • Vampires cannot be created with Death by Lightning ghost type, even though they can die that way (CAS issue only). This issue was reported here: [V] [S] Death by lightning missing for Vampire ghosts in CAS 
  • More of a oversight, but teens have emotional death ghost type available (Embarrassment, Laughter, and Anger), even though they can't die by emotions.
  • Another oversight, but as ghost traits won't consider other traits, Death by Laugher is available for Cringe sims, even though they can't die by laughter.
  • Creating a mermaid ghost in CAS will have them have the usual gravestone while the other occults will get their own gravestones. The report: [IL] Mermaid ghosts created in CAS don’t default to mermaid grave 

So yeah, these are the biggest issues caused by revamping the ghost traits with the age filters. There are three ways to solve this:

  1. Make the age filter a soft filter, so that the trait cannot be chosen in CAS, but can be applied with cheats or gameplay if so happens.
  2. Remove the age filter and make every type available to every age.
  3. Keep the filter, but take note of issues and fix the bugs that can come from it. Plus add more ghost types to children or disable their ability to die by these ways.
