Restoration Workshop "Gameplay" Expanded to All Packs
I'm very disappointed that the Restoration Workshop kit's "new gameplay" is exclusive to the handful of items in the kit.
You buy the items as pre-damaged versions, and then restore them. It's pretty simple, but it's cute.
I was really hoping this pack would make things like appliances decay over time. Maybe after they require repairs a certain amount of times, they need restoration. It doesn't even have to be a functionality thing- it could just be visual and maybe a buff when Sims are nearby or using it that they're upset it's in such a state.
As a modder...I know this wouldn't be "easy" exactly, but it...I mean, it kinda would be. All the mechanics required to implement this exist in game already except for bespoke textures for objects it would apply to. If I were to mod this feature in, I'd give objects with certain tags- like appliances- a repair "commodity" that decays each time the object breaks. After a few drops in the commodity it would apply an overlay texture to the object and give it the "Restore" interaction, which would then fix the object and reset its hidden "restoration commodity". While in the decayed state it would give off a negative buff when in-use. That's pretty much all you need- and it's in line with existing gameplay mechanics like Dust from Bust the Dust and furniture scratches from Cats and Dogs and Werewolves.
I would also have liked to see- over a long period of time- couches get stained, wooden furniture get scratches and scuffs, etc, using the same mechanics. The game fully supports things like this already! It'd be totally doable!
Additionally, we should be able to restore Dumpster furniture and burnt furniture. These seem like pretty reasonable expectations for a kit like this to come with, even though Kits don't generally contain gameplay at all. This one tries to have a little bit of it but stopped short, unfortunately!
(Also, the restorable items in the kit do not increase in value after being restored...that should, uh, be a thing. Seems kind of obvious.)
