Honestly, after (hopefully) the majority of bugs are addressed, I really think the dev team should go through a cross-pack compatibility, and cohesion phase (for like a year+). I don't care if they want to do this via a report system (new forums) and upvote way, on their own, or via feedback.
What hinders the Sims 4 (besides bugs), IMHO is the lack of cohesion and immersion. Which includes but is not limited to Sim Autonomy, Sim traits/personality, and lack of cross-pack compatibility.
There are many cases were opportunities were missed in EPs, where players thought it be an obvious feature/bridge between packs. For example:
- PlantSims becoming a permanent life state with EbN (but as an update), with an ability tree. I can't think of a more appropriate EP to introduce this.
- EbN or R&L (as an era/medieval angle) to have a no computers/mobile gameplay toggle/feature (introducing replacement objects/tasks), to be able to do career tasks, aspirations, skills that otherwise require a computer or mobile.
- R&L being able to assign a household member as "staff" but still playable but act as maid/butler/ranch hand/etc.
- AA should have had both a Getaway system and Hotel system.
- GT/B&H/AA/R&L Clubs/Retail Businesses/Custom Venues/Dynasties all piggy back (a similar if not same foundation of) an autonomy based system. But they are not cohesive (do not have the same selections/activities/etc.) across the board, and do not work together they work as the OP mentions with secrets/scandals—independently.
- FR/B&H cannot be in the same lot, which some people really want to recreate condensed city type living.
