Steampunk stuff pack idea.
I think it would be nice to get a stuff pack that not only adds all kinds of steampunk fashions, but also comes with steampunk replacements of a lot of tech we have in the game.
Not only reskins, but also stuff that functions a bit differently. Like a mechanical bird on a perch that functions as a burglar alarm, which can be crafted.
I'd put a steampunk robotics station in the stuff pack where you could make that, and various other items including a steampunk automaton version of the servo. You can't make any modern stuff at university's robotics station, and no steampunk stuff at university's station either. Could be some overlap in what you can make, but some things could be unique to each station, and always each in their own style.
An accompanying update could always add a few more options to University's robotics station too like being able to build it's own alarm system.
It could could with a new career of gentleman/woman/person inventor or such, which would have a little overlap with University's engineer career but focus more on the academic side too, and your sim would go to work in increasingly fancier steampunk style outfits, unlocking some through the career as well.
It could be very thorough with providing steampunk items of all the electronic stuff. Television, a very big computer, kitchen appliances, fire alarm which could be a bell of sorts, a suitable phone cover for your sims along with a home screen option that has a strong steampunk feel to it, a mailbox, trash compactor, etc.
And the new feature of the pack could be duelling, that sims can do with various swords using Journey to Batuu's sword fight animations. Only the drawing and stowing of swords would have a new animation.
Pistol duelling would be new however, done in a new duelling ground object which would be a line on the ground. Sims who use it can opt to either start at the centre with backs against each other, take ten steps and turn to shoot, or they can start at that distance and do a quickdraw shooting instead.
Since it's the sims, they would not be using dangerous bullets, but can unlock several types of novelty ammunition instead, so the loser of the duel gets humiliated by being drenched in water, covered in paint, briefly frozen in ice, put to sleep or some stuff like that.
You can only start duels with sims who have the required weapon, like lightsaber duels in Journey to Batuu.
You can pick between various motivations behind the duel, which change result conditions:
-Friendly duel. Just two sims playing around having fun, no stakes to it, relationship improves from that. Though depending on traits a sim might like the other less if they get hit by something they'd really dislike, like a proper sim hit with paint.
-Duel for honour. Of course this duel is issued with a glove slap! Both involved sims improve their reputation some for the positive, declining this challenge lowers their reputation however. It can also really improve the relationship between sims who are enemies, especially for proper sims.
-Duel for the right to stay. This town isn't big enough for both sims! Whichever sim loses this duel automatically leaves the household, or leaves the lot if not part of it.
-Acting rehearsal. No stakes, just two sims improving their acting skill and taking pauses for dramatic dialogue in between. No one hit by novelty bullets either, but sims might fake getting injured and act out a dramatic death before getting back up.
Aside from these options, it can also be possible to challenge the grim reaper to a duel when he comes to collect a dying sim in your household. If you win, the deceased stays alive, if an elder they get some more days. You also get a copy of the weapon the Grim Reaper duels with, he obviously has a cool pistol and sword you can't obtain any other way. But if you lose, the reaper takes you along as well as the deceased sim.
All in all, I think such a stuff pack could add a lot in style and gameplay, and also adding a fun risk/reward thing with real difficulty and high stakes, and bring back a bit of that surreal chaos from earlier sims games.
