My opinion is that the makeup system in The Sims 4 (TS4) has both advantages and disadvantages. What TS4 excels at: Lipstick, eyeliner, blush, and eyeshadow are just a few of the many options. Color, opacity, and saturation controls were added in updates, enhancing the makeup customization experience significantly. The game's makeup looks became more diverse and professional as a result of the partnership with MAC Cosmetics. What else might be better: Eyeshadows and eyeliners, in particular, are thought by many players to be too heavy or unrealistic in the base game. Some makeup options don't work equally well on all skin tones, particularly darker skin tones. This has been a long-standing community concern.
A lot of Simmers rely on custom content (CC) because they want more natural-looking makeup and eyelashes.
Applying makeup across multiple outfits can sometimes feel repetitive or inconvenient.
I give TS4 makeup a 7/10 overall. It's much better than it was at launch, but compared to the huge variety available through custom content, the official makeup catalog can still feel limited. It works well for everyday Sims, but many players prefer CC makeup for highly detailed or realistic Sims.
