I do have a sim that is in the writer career, but it's weird that even when i have written a book and published it i can't order the books my sim has written.
And it's also weird that the written books that are published can not be found in the libraries or online when the sim uses his/her/their phones.
I agree that that's odd, but the career just doesn't go into that level of detail.
One suggestion I've seen online (PeteyPlaysIt's YouTube video) is to make a copy of the book, and then take the copy to the library for your other Sims to enjoy.
Many of my Sims have little artisan stores selling homemade preserves/crafts or homemade herbal remedies/jungle remedies and things like that and I thought it would be nice to add their cookbooks, travel guides, children's books too but I couldn't add any for sale. I managed to place their books in the stores for customers to read but it's not quite the same. I couldn't set them for sale.
In previous versions of the Sims I'm sure you sometimes saw your Sim's book in a library.
It's a little bit centered around using mailbox and computer to publish and sell your art and books. You should be able to give your book as a gift. I have a book store in my gallery that I built. I do also want to include my books as inventory or as a garage sale. But, if you would sell books through the inventory or direct trade you would miss out getting messages when you start to get fans. Fans usually send you messages and sometimes through the publisher asking for sequence and sequel. And to tell you they loved it.
I never debugged this. But, you have to have at least 80 followers on social media for your fans to notify you through social media. It's faster that way. And you get donations through your publisher name paid by the fan.
You can get a special career card if you never meet the Lewis family or Goth family. You find out that Alice Lewis died because her husband left her after she got stressed from an unsuccessful career.
