I recently installed Sims4.
I have finally decided to try building my own house. I get walls up, raise the foundation, add a porch, but when I go to add stairs...they will not attach or rotate, they always face towards the house.
I have tried using the < and > to rotate with no luck. I tried switching to live mode then back, I have even tried re-booting my laptop with no luck.
I am so frustrated.

Can you please verify that when you are using the < and > brackets to rotate, that you are "holding" the stairs at the time? Like, can you freely move the stairs around? In order to use the brackets, you have to be "holding" the stairs. The brackets won't work if you have placed the stairs on the ground. Please come back and update if the brackets aren't working to rotate the stairs while you are "holding" them.
In the meantime, I created a video with some tips for stairs a while ago. There's a weird audio glitch at the beginning, so you might want to have your volume down a bit to start. Sorry for that The vid starts with some general tips for maneuvering around the lot as well as build / buy objects. If you want to skip all that, the actual stairs part begins around 3:45 minutes.
