Attraction to particular gender sims
I am confused about the attraction system.
How is it that my sim can only want to be romantic or woohoo with another sim of the opposite gender, but still gets attracted to sims of the same gender. Surely, that is a far more important attraction trait than hair colour or similar. Is there any way to stop my sims getting attracted to sims of the wrong gender?
Who a sim gets attracted to has gotten a bit on the complex side these days with so many things going into it. Gender preferences, likes/dislikes and turn ons/offs all play a part in it.
The biggest thing I find that impacts the gender attraction though, seems to be whether the sim is Exploring, and you have more than one gender selected for either romance, woohoo or both. If you set Exploring to no, then the sim will only be attracted to the gender you select. Otherwise, they will be attracted to both genders if you leave both genders selected in either category. That will still be attracted to sims of their preferred gender who are set as same sex though. So, you can get a straight sim being attracted to a gay sim or vice versa but when you try pretty much any romance option, it will usually be rejected.
I have experimented with the likes/dislikes and the turn ons/offs quite a bit and also found that the more you select in each category, you open up your sim to be attracted to a larger number of sims. So, to keep from having, say a single straight male, being attracted to every female in the game, you need to limit how many you choose and to choose both a few of both plus and minus likes/dislikes and turn ons/offs. So, to keep the match pool relatively small, I usually limit those to just a few in each category when I set them and let them gain new ones during play depending on what they do. And for some couples that I want to marry and raise families, I will fine tune them to each other in CAS when I decide to let the match be permanent.
