Balancing the spellcasters (My IDEAS)

Some elixirs was too powerful while at the same time being too easy to make:

  • Powerful elixirs need to be harder to make (I have a full fridge of full stat heal elixirs cause it only costs 1 apple and you get 4 of them)
  • Reduce the amount of servings of elixirs that some powerful elixirs give.
  • Don't give a sample of elixir when you find a new recipe. It removes the excitement that comes with having to make the elixir once you learn the recipe.

It's too easy to get new spells and makes the spellcaster gameplay too short:

  • The sages should be more reluctant to learn you new spells. Becoming a better friend with them increases chance of them learning you a new spell, but it should ALWAYS have a chance to fail when you ask (chance decreasing with friendliness)
  • A longer cooldown between each time you can ask, and if the don't want to teach you a new spell, it should still be placed on cooldown before you can ask again.
  • Practicing magic should fill you meter so that you can just AFK practice magic how much you want, you need to wait in between practicing.

Some spells are too powerful and need balancing:

  • More powerful spells should be balanced by increasing the meter MUCH more than what it already does. (Example, copying an item is really powerful and can make you really rich fast. If it falls let's say 70% of the meter, people would fear using that spell again unless they are confident that the meter is very low)

Make sages more interesting:

  • Make it more interesting to get the ultimate spell from a spellcaster, you have to beat them in a magic duel before they will teach you the ultimate spell. IT SHOULD BE HARD to beat them, and you need to be a very powerful spellcaster before you can do it.

Some elixirs like a potion of immortality should gave freeze age, not age till elder even not die by age, most people don't want elder forever, but want young forever.

spell petty powerful, you only get once elixirs then use spell to copy it, no need to remake at all

remain it's can failed and you lost.

Spellcaster should be make thing easier and powerful, but nice to had vampire or someone immune magic, but trade off, can't get good spell buffed but immune to harmful magic

I recalled you can't make sell potion, it's cost zero values, I think it's petty good balance for most part, some people don't like tedious that make thing harder or longer, or fail till make it.

I'm not sure magic duel is random little bit.

I agree spellcasters is mostly powerful even better than vampire, but not agree to nerfed it as spellcaster should be powerful. but that's my thought, otherwise it's wouldn't fun to play spellcaster if not powerful.

  • @Simphobic   I agree with that. Leveling up is far too easy. There should be a hurtle to overcome before getting the ultimate spell. Not just asking and "Sure! Here you go!"

Making it more of a challenge will make it all that sweeter when you get it.

@Humility925 Having the Potion of Immortality freeze current age would make the Potion of Rejuvenation useless. You CAN stay young forever, just keep taking Rejuvenation.

I was quite a bit disappointed also that potions were $0. I was expecting to make some money at it. Thankfully there is a mod for that.

I agree that spells should remain powerful, but having more obstacles to get them would make it even better. Right now, it's far too easy.

@Psychotps Ye agreed, but there are a few changes to the more powerful ones that I would like to see. Like the copypasto etc, they should put a cap on how much an item is allowed to be worth before being able to be copied, as well as add a scaling where items that are worth more at the top, almost completely fill the charge meter (to add a challenge where you risk dying if you tryna cheap your way to money through copypasto) whereas cheaper item, like a plate of chicken will barely fill it at all.

@Simphobic Good idea, maybe have bigger or more expensive things require a higher spellcaster level, and more mana charge like you said.

Right now it's a little OP. You write a $500 a day book, you can copypasto it and submit it twice gaining thousands over the space of a week. It doesn't work on paintings though. I was kinda hoping it would, but that would be REAL OP. I can paint a single painting worth $3000-4000. It would make a ton of money if I could just copy it and sell the copy every time I needed $3000.
  • @Simphobic I think all your suggestions are really good! Right now it’s way too easy.

I had a sim learning to teleport, and every time she used that spell she got more XP, so it didn’t take long for her to get to virtuoso because I set it for her to always teleport. Kind of boring actually. I just got her to learn the spell because it’s convenient, not to have her gaining tons if XP.

Yeah, there are probably a ton of changes that could be made to balance (including removing the xp gain from automatically teleporting), so any more suggestions are appreciated. Hopefully someone will at least make a mod where they incorporate balancing ideas for spellcasters, so that it becomes a challenge and an actual "lifelong" aspiration for a person to become a powerful wizard, like if they start in young adult, maybe they are complete when they are about to reach elder or something like that.

I totally agree with what's been discussed here. Playing the game as a spellcaster is like playing the game on baby-settings in god-mode with all cheats enabled. It's ridiculously overpowered, and at the same time, totally underwhelming. But let's be real: EA won't be fixing/balancing any of this, for when have they ever, I repeat EVER, made the game harder?

However, here's what I did to curb the madness just a little and make the game somewhat challenging:

Make the Magic Realm a horrible place to endure!

First, I gave that venue the worst lot traits imaginable: Cursed, Grody and Volcanic Activity (there are alternatives like Mean Vibe, Quake Zone or Filthy)

Then, I went ahead and removed all toilets, sinks and showers, only leaving some woohoo-bushes outside. No beds/tents, mirrors or any form of entertainment allowed either!

After that, I placed rats with the "Whole Hole Mouse in the Wall" from Cats&Dogs everywhere!

In addition, I gave every spellcaster a voodoo doll and bound it to a rival spellcaster. They do use them autonomously, even if you don't play them, and it causes absolutely delicious havoc.

I also don't allow any of my spellcasters to get any of the normal reward traits, like Waterproof, Hardly Hungry, Seldom Sleepy and the like (ok, Always Welcome & Observant are the exception I make). They really don't need them! Especially Carefree (or its Island Living equivalent Laid-Back) which makes them completely immune to death from overcharge. And don't be sneaky and mount that alabaster crystal to a celestial crown there either...

Now it must be said that even doing all of the above, gameplay is still easy, but it does tend to shake things up a little.

    Well, have fun!
