Blast from the past: Event tasks keeps resetting after closing game

The "Blast from the Past" and previous events have had task reset when I load back into the household. This has left me unable to progress the event this time as I already created the time travel component form the shards and thus have no shards in my inventory to complete it again. There's no way for me to collect more shards either.
