Book of life missing
I did make a book of life. When I was finished capturing the life of a sim, the sim put it in the bookshelf. Now I cannot find it anymore. I tried this 2 times now and the same happened.

You might try selling all your bookcases, or putting them all in household inventory, to see if that stops your Sim from putting the book away.
@ElinBraun If you have a BG storage chest around, check the inventory in that. Sims have a tendency to put books away in those at times. So, if you have one, check it for the missing book.

ElinBraun and everybody else who had the same problem: the books are actually stored in the bookcase after capturing a Sims' life, but can only be found if "Open" the list of books as inventory panel. The book has a mystery cover (black with a white flower)
I usually trash all books coming by default with the bookcase, but prefer to let the Sims handle inventory themselves, so they don't just leave the book on a random surface when I'm not paying attention. I "lost" a book for a couple of game sessions in a big house, wasn't fun looking around every surface.
Maybe was a bug in the past, not anymore anyway.
