Build Mode Not Working

In addition to the lagging that everyone else shared, I'm having a hard time building anything since the Royalty Expansion Pack update. The flooring only goes diagonally, Paint keeps disappearing from walls, and the regular roofs are coming out diagonal. 

Is there a way that we don't have to update unless we purchase the new DLC?
