Butler doesn't do anything but read

I have a butler that is supposed to be doing all kinds of tasks. Mine however doesn't do anything but read all day, still leaving my Sims (3 young adults, 5 babies) doing all the work. Any suggestions??? I've done the latest update, but that didn't fix the problem, before the update the butler did the exact same, just read all day.

@107531kop Yes... normally toddlers are fine (I just did a home with 3 toddlers about a month ago). I just finished one a couple of days before they fixed the needs decay bug, and that toddler was in a huge household, and it was insane trying to monitor it properly. (I assume you're aware that there was a bug with toddler needs decaying at double speed that began with the Nov. 12 patch and was fixed in the Nov. 25 patch: https://www.ea.com/games/the-sims/the-sims-4/update-notes).

Back to butler stuff... I was playing the household with the new butler that I mentioned last night and there was what seemed like a long time where he and the maid were just standing together in the kitchen, then the maid finally went home. If I notice any new patterns rather than improvements on this butler I can let you know. 🙂 Have fun with your tots!

  • @107531kop 5 babies!!! Oh, my goodness!!!! I love butlers - and that globe bar from the Vintage Stuff pack! I've had two different butlers in my current household (very large - including roomies and pets... butler earns their pay. The first butler was good, but one of the roomies started flirting with the butler, and this particular sim I hope to pair with someone else. since I don't control the roomie or butler, something had to give. So I fired the butler. Not the new butler didn't seem to do anything but sit around and read his training manuals all the time... and stand around. He is slowly improving. I've had a lot of butlers. If your butler is doing this you can try a few things:

    • Have your sim introduce themselves, and interact long enough to get the option 'get to know'. You will then get a few traits about the butler in your notifications. If the butler is a klepto or otherwise not good for the household, fire him/her and hire a new/different one. Do this until you get one that is a good fit. Alternately, you can hover over the butler and get the name and hunt them down in unplayed households to see what their traits are.
    • Butlers have mad skills and very low needs decay. But it could be that some come with less experience in serving. Until your butler picks up the ball better (maybe literally if you have pets) you can instruct them to do certain helpful tasks, like making a family meal.
    • I'd recommend a nanny but I just tried one last week with the toddler in crazy straits and it was the most useless helper ever!! 🤨

When I have more than one baby or toddler in a household I oftentimes move a fellow adult (skilled, and possibly unemployed and available) family member or other helper sim into the household to help with caring for the baby/toddler, household tasks, etc. I would also hire a maid - even with the butler.

Hope this helps some. Good luck!

  • @SheriGR It's a household with 3 mothers & 1 unfortunately had triplets, I should've kept 2 more adults in the household until after the birth, but hey... and you can keep toddlers sitting quietly for a long time, just have them working on the toddler ipad-thingy until a skill is maxed out and then move to the next one... just shove food in their inventories when needed and stuff pretty much fixes itself, you only need to keep an eye on when they have to go to bed.

I had a nanny as well, problem was: if the butler was doing anything useful but read books then the nanny would fight her (two women)… not a clue why... but I'll try you tips thanks!
