[BY DESIGN] Filters for packs not working in the gallery

I know this sounds pretty pathetic but I only own the base game and Get to Work in TS4. When I go into the gallery I select only the packs I have in the Packs dropdown many on the left side of the screen. I search for items (usually lots) and it keeps showing me house lots that contain items from other packs with only a few that match my criteria. What can I do that I haven't already done that will make more compatible items show up in the gallery (in the community section?

Thanks!

  • Hello @PurpleSweetTart @Phantomlover1717 @crinrict

If I'm understanding the topic correctly, I believe this is by design.  The pack filters are intended to be inclusive rather than exclusive.  In other words, they will display any gallery items that include those packs, regardless of whether other, unselected packs are also included in the item.

    @Vyo4This. Entirely this.

A filter is supposed to remove specified items from a search. It is literally defined as "to process or assess (items) in order to reject those that are unwanted".

Honestly, what is this "by design" filter filtering precisely? If you don't put on a filter and don't own Get Together the Gallery shows you entries created with Get Together. Tick Get Together off and the Gallery shows you entries created with Get Together. That is "by design"? That's not a filter.

And I am one of those players that has walked away frustrated with trying to place usable lots. I am not good at building lots, but I'm decent at decorating them but I don't always have a lot of time to play and I'd rather be playing my Sims with my time than building lots. I get frustrated because the Gallery wouldn't show me anything I could use without spending several hours finding and replacing a whole mess of items (83 one time o.O). I end up spending all of my available playing time hunting the Gallery or patching in the packs I do have for the small number of packs and all the kits I don't have. This often results in me getting overall frustrated and walking away from the game for weeks or even months. And that also impacts my future DLC purchases, let me assure you.

A company's goal should never be to deliberately vex their customers.

Can someone please change the title from "Solved" to "Unsolved" and from "By Design" to "By Bad Design"?

I am working with computers for over 30 years now and I hardly can remember any worse filter selection than what Sims 4 Gallery has. If I uncheck something, it shouldn't show. That's simple common sense and everything else is bad design, if not outright bug. I am all for inclusivity, but inclusive filters are big exception to that. Filters should not be inclusive. Period.

And the fact that this bad design was ignored by EA and Maxis for years is even worse. What are you doing, guys? You had years to fix this and you still didn't? That's just not right!

On top of that, kits should be separated. I have some kits, but not all and I should be able to filter just those I don't have, not all of them. Yeah, by this current design, that wouldn't work anyway. But once fixed, this needs to be addressed as well.

  • Is it possible to make pack filtering exclusive rather than inclusive so people who don't own all the sims packs are able to find builds from specific packs/kits similar reasons?

I don't wanna try to download a gallery house and realize I need like 30 items from a pack I don't own.

Sometimes I just don't wanna build my own houses, it would be more helpful if I could sort it by cats n dogs, or vampires, or the kits I recently got....

It also means, if I ever feel like downloading a house from the gallery I always have to sort by base game only even though I own other packs...

This is made on purpose so you would finally buy the packs you don't own.

Come on EA ! We have been having this issue for 8 years and EA still does nothing about it. Are they looking at the forum using internet explorer ?

Basically you are saying the galery is useless unless you are trying to install base game content. If it is the case than you shouldn't even bothered to create the gallery, if it is by the design than change the freakin design.
Why would I want to see a list of content that I cannot have ?

At least create another menu below showing the stuff we could have with one or two more packs. But showing us some things that would require 900 hundred euros of packs is silly.

  • There are 3 auto pack filters on the Sims 4 Gallery: 'Show All' (Which shows everything on the gallery), 'Show Basegame' (Which shows all the basegame stuff) and 'Show owned'.

I thought this would show everything that i could download without any items disappearing because I didn't have the pack. But instead it shows everything that includes at least one of the packs that you own. I personally think that it should show everything that only includes the packs that you own because when I look for a something on the gallery, I tend to just filter by base game because I know that everything on there I can download. Sometimes I don't want a basegame build but I want to be able to to download something with only the packs that I own.

The filter is pointless at the moment because it just ends up showing everything because literally everything uses at least one of the packs I own.

Can this please be fixed because it isn't too hard but will have a big impact on people that own a few packs.
