@PaganGamer90The world is static and not to be edited, like other "common" areas (San Myshuno festival areas) [Edited: my answer is incorrect.]
To my recollection it's always been possible to replace the Magic Realm lot itself (not the world, just that lot), but it's been a while since I checked. (Though whether the lot is editable or not, it's definitely not supposed to "softlock" like that).
When the game fails to exit, you may be able to use a task manager program to force the application to close, rather than having to restart your entire device. While you have no mods installed now, have you ever used any mods at all? Some glitches caused by mods aren't automatically resolved by removing them. Is this issue only occurring with the Magic Realm lot?
Hi! I'm SimmerStar4 (they/them). I'm not an expert on game issues, so don't take me as one! I'm just a Sims player who wants to try and help fellow players, and who finds game bugs and issues interesting.

@SimmerStar4I'll go in and test now... brb
Update: With free build enabled I was able to edit the lot and returning to live mode proceeded without a glitch. Ya' learn something new every day! Thanks.
