I'm trying to study a historical display at the museum for the event and no matter what I click all I get is view with Emits picture on it. I've tried all my museums. I even took out my mods and repaired the game and still the same thing.

I am also having this issue. Used the View option on multiple items both paintings and sculptures.
Try repairing the game, I did that, and then have looots of patience and keep "Viewing" different items. I did that and it miraculously worked for me 😉

I tried everything in this thread and the only thing that worked was allowing my sim to view a piece of art (for hours on speed 3). When he finally finished suddenly he completed the task
I had the same issue only after several tries at viewing paintings did it regester and was able to move on and start a new task. It won't register if you're looking at one painting right away. Seems like I had to keep viewing painting after painting after painting all while letting the sim finish viewing each painting on his own.
Same issue today - I do not use modes

For some reason your solution of using the "on the hunt statuette" worked, I tried clicking on painting, floor sculptures, and etc., but only the statuette that you listed worked for me.
This worked for me, thank you! Mods were turned off and I put these items in a museum.
I left Museum and went back the next day, viewed a couple times and it worked, after View was completed it next said ask an elder about the shard. I vIewed the Knight in armour at the WillowCreek Museum, I thought it wasn't working as I was expecting to see the word study, I just had to wait until my Sim was done fully viewing for it to complete task.
