@jackRA88iTx I haven't played in the dorms, and I'm on Mac, but it's my understanding that this is a DU thing, not a platform thing. If I'm remembering correctly if you want to use build mode at all you need to do it before you move any sims into the dorm (while it's empty), plus many people recommended evicting the sim who lives in one of the dorms before beginning also. My understanding is that once you begin playing in the dorm you cannot access build mode (unless you use a cheat). So I expect that PC/Mac players are sharing your frustration at not being able to adjust the position of a placed item. 🤔
Because of this, I would assume that the best solution is what you mentioned... to move something, first place it in your inventory, then adjust your camera angle and your sim's position in the room so that when the item is placed it will be in the position you want it. This is definitely a fidgety process that could occasionally get quite annoying. 🤨
It would be handy if an ability to adjust the position in live mode were to be added, but since this is a build mode function I wouldn't think it's possible to add. 😞
