Does the Necrocall spell even work?

In my game all of the Goth family have passed away except for Bella ( but there are many new children in the family).  I also noticed the grave stones for Cassandra and Alexander in the yard so I wanted to resurrect them because I knew they hadn't died of old age.  But first I had to move some of these new children off the lot because the family was full with 8 sims.  I had a spellcaster come over tne visit and try to call their ghosts out of their resting place with the Necrocall spell.  But noting hapened.  So I ddn't know if the failure of the spell was due to the family being full already so it couldn't bring back two additional family members or maybe there is just a bug with that spell.   So I created a new sim and house across the street and then had two of the adult children move over there and live with the strange guy in that house.  I was thinking maybe creating a cult and make all the members where unusual outfits....but I digress.  Regardless,  even with the openings now in the Goth family I still couldn't get the spell to work and bring the ghosts of Alexander and Cassandra back.   Then I would have used the Dedeadify spell to bring them back to the living.  I have no idea what happened to Mortimer.  He must have died on some other lot.

  • It must be a glitch because even after moving several children out of the house and Bella herself dying the spellcaster could not get the two urns of Alexander or Cassandra to do anything.  There must be a time limit of how long they had been dead.  Meanwhile even without magic your could click on Bella's urn and select "strengthen ties to the physical world" and she came out as a ghost and then the spellcaster coudl use the Dedeadify spell on her and voila.  She was back, albeit as an Elder so likely she'll die again at some point.

  • FlamingoKicker  There is a time limit on how long a ghost will remain in the game before being culled.  That time limit is 90 in game days.  Using the Strengthen option on the urn/tombstone will reset the counter and extend the time another 90 days.  You can do that as many times as you like.  Basically, if you look at an urn/tombstone and it still has the Strengthen option, then the ghost is still in the game.  If the option is no longer there, then the ghost has been culled.  It does take a while after a sim dies before the option shows up on the urn, so a player needs to keep checking the urn until the option appears.

In your case, Alexander and Cassandra died more than 90 days ago and have been culled from the game.  Once a sim has been culled, there is no way to get them back short of loading new copies of them from your Library or the Gallery.   However, they will be different sims and not have any familial connections to other sims as well as only having skills, etc. that they had at the time you saved them to your Library.

    Hope this helps.
