EA Made NPC/Townie Relationships & Sentiments Not Shown

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.77.131.123
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All expansion packs, all game packs, stuff packs: paranormal, nifty knitting, tiny living, laundry day, fitness, toddler stuff, movie hangout, kits: country kitchen.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? When loading a new save, the pre-loaded NPC relationships and sentiments are not present. For example, for the new Cottage Living pack, Cecilia Kang's relationship panel shows she knows no one, but she is supposed to know Michael Bell and have a "bad first date" sentiment with him. The same thing happens with the Snow Escape townies.
What happens when the bug occurs? Whenever I start a new save file.
What do you expect to see? I expect to see the pre-loaded relationships and sentiments.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

N/A

  • @doreilly1122 are you sure there are actually supposed to be any? They are doing a much better job these days of setting up interesting backstories for the premade characters, but in most cases, that's all they are - stories in the text.

@doreilly1122 I just tested loading a game from before Cottage Living existed and then checking Cecilia immediately after she was created. She has acquaintance friendships with Ian Moody and Michael Bell and the sentiment for a bad date with Michael.

So it seems like it's working to me. In my main save, where two weeks has passed in game since Henford on Bagley was created, my Cecilia now doesn't have the sentiment, which is probably to be expected, as they aren't permanent and have a timer to expire. Because I have her as unplayed as well, she's also subject to the game's more aggressive relationship culling activity for NPCs, where it will sometimes wipe all non-important relationships between NPC and NPCs.

So from my test, it looks like it's working just like the wiki has, but it's not a bug that it doesn't last - I've mostly found that sentiments are temporary.
  • @doreilly1122 I don't have relationships either between NPC from Cottage LIving but only in my old save files. If I start a new one relationships and sentiments are present. It's a pity that I have to start a new game to have it.
  • I have the same issue as @Maysbat.

If I create a new save, the NPCs have the right preexisting relationships, but when I play my existing save, the NPCs have no relationships on the relationship panel.

Ex: I checked the Pancakes and the Vatores. Both families had the correct relationships assigned in CAS (brother/sister, husband/wife) but their relationship panels were all empty.

So I just checked an old save of mine that I haven't touched in a while and the sentiment is there

So all seems normal to me. Maybe it goes away really fast ?

  • Yeah, this has been a problem for me too with the Watson household. I did not notice because I created a family to play before switching to them.

Also noticed the same with Cecilia Kang

Loaded a new save and the sentiments are back. Pretty disappointing that my main save doesn't have them.

    Hi @doreilly1122,

This has been confirmed as working as intended by the Sims team, as @simvasion said those relationships/sentiments are timed and will fade as you play.
