@vioIetwraith if I have ingredients in the fridge I just choose the leftovers I want them to eat by using Open instead of Get Leftovers. Then I choose their meal.
Or if there are a few Sims getting leftovers, say at breakfast I drag the plate out to the bench and get them to take a serving from the plate instead of the fridge.
It also stops the annoying Sims standing around the fridge problem.
That's how I usually handle things, too, but I mostly play one Sim households so it's easy for me to keep track of what the Sim is trying to do. Micromanagement gets a lot harder when there are two or more Sims to handle.
