FiveM has new copyright laws; what does this mean 4 peds made with Sims 4 Models

I need some understanding of this situation. Recently Cfx.re has been told to comply with their PLA which means real world brands and game models from other copyrighted games can not be used. Since PEDS in FiveM are usually highly customized with CC's, but the base model is still a sims model - does this mean I am no longer able to created FiveM PEDS using sims 4 3d models?

  • Hi @OHJooli. IANAL* but... It has always been a likely breach of copyright to add one game's content to another game unless the original game's terms of use grant explicit permission to do so (especially outside the U.S., because the transformative use exception is not found in most of the world and not included in international copyright agreements). Trademarked content is more complicated legally.

*IANAL but I have extensively studied copyright law and taught it as a non-lawyer to non-lawyers.

As far as I'm aware the only game where the devs have given explicit consent to use its 3D models in other games is S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl. So this game you are speaking of could definately get in trouble with EA.
