upon playing further, it also seems that the customers can't enter the business for some reason. They all react as if something is blocking their path.
I don’t know that Business & Hobbies was meant to be played as an employee… I think it was theoretically meant to be either as the owner or as a customer, so trying to play as an employee not in the owner’s household may have weird effects. I’ll have to play around with it. Does your sim show as an employee while they’re there? Do they get paid?
Edit: I can confirm after testing in my game that I cannot play as an employee when not a member of the owner's household. If I travel to the lot, the business is open, but I am a customer. If I switch to the owner, open the business, wait for my employee to show up, then save and go to manage worlds and switch and play as the employee, when I load in the business is closed and the employee is just hanging around the house as a visitor.
I do not know if this is as intended or an oversight.

I got a notification when I traveled to the business that one or more of the sims in my household are employees at the business so they may do work activities. I wasn't able to find out if they got paid or not because none of the customers would come into the business. They all acted as if something was blocking their path to the kiosk.
My sim did not get paid.
Was your sim able to access the kiosk? Are you sure the customers couldn't get in, or did they just decide it wasn't worth the price?

I was able to access the kiosk and pay to get in. The customers would spawn outside the apartment, then do the animation of them being blocked. A bubble would appear over their head of a kiosk with like an X over it I think.
You were running the business out of an apartment lot? Or you just mean the building you built?
If the kiosk is inside, did you double check in build mode that the rooms to get there are all public? Your sim may have been allowed through an employee-only room.
Screenshots might help if you can share any.

Yes the business is in the lower floor of a two floor apartment lot. I did double check in build mode that the room was set to public. The kiosk is set right when customers walk in, everything in the lower floor is set to public. I don't have any screenshots unfortunately.
By apartment lot, do you mean a penthouse? It’s possible the elevator isn’t public.

Not a penthouse, just a two floor apartment. I've since moved the household to a penthouse but when I was playing in the apartment, as the business owner, the customers could reach the kiosk just fine. It was only when I switched to playing as an employee that things got weird.
A For Rent apartment, or a City Living apartment?
