Foundation textures/recolor not working?

I have googled this in every way I can think of, and I haven't been able to find any answers D:

I learned how to raise and lower rooms, and from what I've read, this is how you add a foundation. But no matter what I've done, I cannot find a way to distinguish the foundation from the rest of the house, and therefore I cannot use the foundation textures to change the appearance of the foundation. I've read so many guides and posts on this forum and I don't understand what I'm missing.

I hover over the exposed "foundation"(?) with the texture tool, and it shows that it costs 0, but the actual texture never shows up.

Please help! ☹️

oh my lord thank you SO MUCH. you're right, it was a platform (just the deck) because i couldn't figure out any other way to do a porch. the platform trim did work on the front porch!

but i guess this still leaves me with the question: what's the difference between a platform and a foundation then? do you have to build a foundation SEPARATE from a room, or is the bottom part of a raised room automatically considered the foundation? I guess I don't understand the difference between foundations and platforms, if there is one.

You make a foundation by clicking and dragging up a room or flat segment:

The foundation tool will change the floor height of the whole floor for all rooms on that level. The platform tool can be used for adding different height platforms inside rooms as well as outside. This is all one room using the tallest wall height but with multiple platforms of differing heights:
