[FR] Furnishings in units get deleted

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.103.315.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Werewolves, Vintage glamour, Vampires, Tiny living, Strangerville, Spa day, Snowy escape, Seasons, Romantic garden, Realm of magic, Perfect patio, Parenthood, Paranormal stuff, Outdoor retreat, Nifty knitting, My first pet, Movie hangout, Moschino, Luxury party, Laundry day, Kids room, Jungle adventure, Holiday celebration, High school years, Get together, Get to work, Get famous, Fitness stuff, Eco lifestyle, For rent, Dream home decorator, Discover university, Dine out, Desert luxe, Cottage living, Cool kitchen, City living, Cats and dogs, Bowling night, Blooming rooms, Backyard stuff, Life of the party
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Create a house with several rooms that can be turned into units. Furnish the house. Turn the lot into rental residential. Assign units. Exit build mode.
What happens when the bug occurs? I created a building from scratch on a residential lot, furnished rooms. Moved in my sim and changed the lot into rental residential and created a single unit with all the rooms (using 'include all rooms into unit'). All furnishings from the rooms were deleted (not moved into family inventory, I checked). I tried another way: I moved all the furnishings to family inventory before changing lot type, changed the lot type, assigned units one by one, re-furnished rooms. The furnishings got deleted when I exited build mode.
What do you expect to see? The furnishings I have placed in build mode will remain and not get deleted.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. Issue appeared after installing For Rent expansion pack.

Currently I'm unable to do any gameplay with rental units, as everything I have placed inside the rooms get deleted instantly when assigning a room/building into a rental unit. The items do not get sent to my family inventory, they just disappear. Attempts to re-furnish rooms after items disappear end up the same, as they just get deleted again when exiting build mode. This only happens to rooms that are included into the rental unit; furnishings outside the rental unit outlines are fine.

Edit By Crinrict: Adjusted tag to fit the naming conventions.

  • The furniture doesn't technially disappear, once they are built and set as 'Residential Rental' the items are hidden unless you travel to the lot. When you are at the active lot the furniture is there.

  • @noelgaem Could you test if this happens on a new save that never had mods/cc in (to check if it's save game related) ? Did you delete the locathumbcache file after removing your mods ?
  • The savegame this happens in has never had mods present (created fresh without mods installed), and the localthumbcache file has been deleted. I also ran repairs to the game as I hadn't tried that before, but the problem persists.

I've been playing a 6-apartment residential rental lot that I built almost since FR came out.  I haven't had any issues with it deleting the furniture.

From what you've said, I think you might be trying to convert the venue from residential to residential rental the wrong way.  You've said you changed the venue with sims on the lot.  I think that's what is causing the furniture to get deleted and might have created other problems you haven't found yet.

So, my suggestion is this:  move the household out so the lot is unoccupied and unowned and put them on another lot.  Go back to the lot, entering from the map.  Change the venue from residential to residential rental and designate the apartments.  If you want it all in just 1 apartment, just choose that option.  Then exit the lot back to the map.  Go back to the household you want to be the owners/landlord and enter the lot in live mode.  Have a sim buy the lot.  You'll auto travel to it.  Just travel back to where the sim was.  Now your household is the landlord for the residential rental lot.  Since you've chosen to make the entire build a rental, then the landlord will live elsewhere.  If you want the landlord to live on the lot, then when you set up the apartments, you'll need to set up a least 2 apartments.  Since you're only setting up one apartment, the landlord can't live there.

Use the residential rental panel to get tenants or if you want to use sims of your choice, just move them in using manage households.

    Hope this helps.

Hi I am having exact same issue like this player. My sim living in a large house in Henford with several unused rooms so I decided to change the current house from Residential to Residential rental with living-in owner room, the issues are:

    - All my furniture disappeared after assigning rental units (furniture in the owner room and share rooms are remained).

    - When I try to place new furniture in now empty unit, the game say I can't add furniture outside owner room.

I can't follow the method to evic owner -> change the lot type/re-furnish -> buy the lot again, because I don't have enough fund for this. The sim was poor in the begining that's why they need to rent our the vacant rooms for income, haha. Is there any other way round?

It appears this is the correct answer. When assigning units in a lot that you own, the game "kicks" you out of the unit, and this means that despite your sim being present, the lot is no longer active, and everything inside the unit is culled out and turns invisible, including the sim if they are currently inside the lot you turned into a unit. This is a very confusing way to have this system work, but at least I know now why everything just disappears. Also a shame I can't see the furnishings I spent a lot of time placing in a lot that is mine, but I suppose this is the way it has to work code-wise.

  • When I noticed that all the furniture was missing I completely panicked and changed the lot from a residential rental back to residential, hoping that would make the furniture reappear. It didn't. So when I switched it back to residential rental, all the unit designations had been deleted. What do you think? Has four days of work just gone down the toilet?

I didn't get mine back. I had to load an earlier save where I hadn't yet assigned any units (I also lost a lot of progress doing this). I don't know what exactly happens when you switch the lot type like that, but I suppose the game decides the items inside the rental unit are no longer yours and does whatever it likes with them. Maybe you could try traveling to the lot from some other lot and see if the things appear back or not.
