Game crashes

I updated the game yesterday. Deleted all mods and cc. Repaired game and still unplayable. Keep getting an “error message restart your game” anytime I try and do anything. Anyone know how or when this will be fixed? Purchased 2 new packs yesterday and I can’t even use them!

  • I have the same error. I live in only one Save File, and don't use mods or CC (none to remove). It's been happening since sometime after 5:00 pm Eastern (it was glitchy/laggy yesterday, but it would open yesterday). If I start a new Save File I don't get the error. But I don't want a new Save File, I want my existing one.

  • Are all saves affected, or only existing ones?  Please test a new save if you haven't already.

Please also post a screenshot of the error message, or write out the full error code.

It affected all saves. Started a brand new game and it was fine up until I ‘travelled’ and it is happening again. It is the same error code that has been posted below on this thread by another user

  • Fascinating. This latest update disabled my mods (ik The Sims does that, but they should truly stop), so went to my settings and re-enabled them. Of course, it tells me to restart my game, so I do. I restart it and launch it, and BOOM! Tells me to re-enable them. So obviously I do that AGAIN, and AGAIN, you can probably guess, nothing. So, I used this as an opportunity to make more BFDI households to upload, but whatever, I'm still angry. I'm sorry this happened to you, also happened to many others, have a great day.

  • halisimmer  In what context do you see this, for example when trying to load your main household or travel to a given lot?  If you can't load your main household, can you load a different one within the same save?  Use Load Game rather than Resume to jump to Manage Worlds.

If you can load a different household, try moving your main sims to a different lot and see whether they or their original house will load separately.  You don't need to save your progress; this is just for testing.

I've seen this in three contexts:

      1. I click Load Game and get the error before I even get to the map.
      2. I click Load Game and get to the map, and get the error when I try to load a household. I've tried with multiple households.
      3. I click Load Game and get to the map, and get the error when I try to load an unoccupied lot.

      I'm on PC.

This is exactly what is happening to me, I have repaired the game so many times I have now lost count! So frustrating, I don’t know how to fix it at this point

  • kathmayallxx  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other user content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see whether you can reproduce the error.

If the error does show up again, clear the EA App's cache and repair the game (again).

If that doesn't help, please let me know which lots are affected, if your sims can travel to some but not others; and whether traveling to these particular lots causes the error always or only some of the time.

halisimmer  Have you tried loading multiple households in multiple worlds?  I'm wondering whether the entire world is corrupt in some way.  Please also let me know whether you see green or orange icons with exclamation points over any lots; this is a separate known issue.

You can also try your existing saves in a clean folder, as described above; and loading a backup save:

  • @puzzleaddict

From Load Game > Save File > Manage Worlds, there are no orange icons and no exclamation points over any lots. There are:

    • Willow Creek - 3 played Households are showing as green.
    • Oasis Springs - 3 played Households are showing as green
    • Newport - 0 played Households
    • Evergreen Harbour - 5 played Households are showing as green
    • Henford-on-Bagley - 2 played Households are showing as green * This is the World where the Error Code first appeared.
    • San Sequoia - 4 played Households showing as green
    • Chestnut Ridge - 3 played Households showing as green
    • Tomarang - 3 played Households showing as green

Then it got weirder? It was taking a long time to Load Game > Save File > Manage Worlds > Load Lot > Error Code and restart the game twice in every World (I tested 1 played Household and 1 unoccupied Lot in every World), so at one point I closed the Error Code and didn't restart but opened the next World... and it worked - I could load in to a played Household and load in to an unoccupied Lot. I went back to the first 5 worlds and tried both again and it worked. But I still received the Error Code the first time I Load Game > Save File > Manage Worlds > Load Lot. I don't feel like ignoring the Error Code is the answer. What should I do?
