I'm having the same issue, I even sold the business but somehow my Sim still seems to own the lot.

I figured it out, you have to make sure you sale the lot first, then you can change it. I was selling the business, but there is an option to sell the lot. That allowed me to change it.

Do you mind telling me where the option is to sell the lot? I can't seem to find it.

alexbuildsstuff try from the map. Click on the lot and then you should have a sell icon in the lower right corner.

Hi jenmh84 You choose residential. When you then register a business on the lot, it becomes a small business residential.

I am having same problem as Jen when I register small business on my home lot. From the phone, computer, or ticket kiosk my sim talk in the phone then that’s it’s no menu option or nothing. When I try to register from the cash register absolutely nothing happen. But it allow me to buy a venue and run it. I just wanted to do it in my home lot and not away

WAIT WHAT??? You can still own the lot, but sell the business??? If it works like that, can a household member move into the lot and create their own business in it? Like a rental????

Also having this problem. First I couldn't open a business on a lot that my sim purchased because I couldn't assign the business to that lot, now I've sold the lot but can't change it to any other lot type because "small business venue" is greyed out. No one owns this lot. There is no option to sell it. No one can move into it. No one can run a business on it. What am I supposed to do now?? Is this save just completely cooked?

I had the same problem and figured it out.
So first I went to the small business settings under the owner and unassigned all lots.
Then I went to manage worlds and clicked on the business lot, and clicked more (the 3 dots at bottom right of screen) and there will be one icon with option to sell the business lot. Click sell, it will send all the money to the owner's household.
Click on the business lot again, enter build mode (also bottom right of screen). Change the lot type at top left of screen to residential.
Then go back to manage worlds and go into live mode of the household in original house. Click move household on the phone/computer. Move into the the business (now residential) lot. It should automatically change the lot into small business residential when the household moves in. Assign residential and public areas, and you're good to go!
