Game Freezes - But keeps going

I have tried with mods, without mods - without using the hotkeys on my keyboard and just leaving it on regular speed but somehow everytime I play - even for just a few moments the game 'freezes'. All the snow keeps falling, for example, and the fire in the fireplace is still moving, but the sims are all stuck. It does not work to save, go to manage worlds, the gallery or interact with anything in the game or use 'reset object'. I have to just force-quit the game and end up losing my progress every time. If I stay in build mode the game works fine. This only started happening after the latest update for Business and Hobbies.
