game play won't work

ever since updating, the game loads up perfectly fine but my sims needs bar are registering as the same sim, so when I ask them to do something, they both go and do it. the commands on the left side of the screen also just keep adding up instead of removing themselves once the task is done. also, once I enter build mode, everything is smooth, then once I come out of it, I have no options at the bottom of my screen, the options at the top no longer work and my sims just sit there making nosies. ive tried some tips I found on here and tried repairing my game. absolutely nothing.
