@Simsfan8989 That depends on the exact specs of the Currys model. If you link me the page, I can take a look.
More questions are always fine. That's what this site is for, after all.
@puzzlezaddict Thank you 🙂
i cant decide which Alienware to get.
I have been looking some more on Dell website.
Would this machine be better than the Alienware Aurora R9?
......
Also to play the sims 4 and never have any issues what specs do I need to be looking at? Im useless.

this is the link the curry website
please could you tell me why this would be better than the one on dell website?
and if I was to buy this machine off currys website... would it run the sims 4 at the best settings and all the adds on etc and future? I understand its pricey but put that to one side would you say this would be a good computer for me to play on it?

I have read alot about Intel® Core is this important? @puzzlezaddict

@Simsfan8989 The model on the Currys website is actually more expensive, for the same hardware, than the ones on the Dell website: it's $50 more than the same configuration in an Aurora R9, and $210 more expensive than the R8 I linked (this one). Unless you like the look of the newer Aurora so much better that you're willing to spend over $100 (depending on the exact hardware) just to get the new case, the R8 is still the best option among these.
The other Alienware you linked on the Dell website, the one with the AMD Ryzen processor, is also more expensive for similar performance. For example, the default Ryzen 5 3500X is a bit faster than an Intel i5-9400, maybe a few percentage points depending on the game. But you'd be paying $150 more for it, with all the other hardware (except for the new case) being the same. You could instead pay £90 and upgrade the 9400 to a 9600K and get a significantly faster processor (for gaming) than the 3500X.
The choice between Intel and AMD processors is sometimes complicated. Intel is better for average users, as in, people who don't want to mess around with overclocking and other tweaks or who don't want to stay on top of all the little updates AMD releases to try to improve performance, as opposed to Intel CPUs, which generally work as intended right out of the box. AMD is also usually better for certain non-gaming tasks like video editing, and in synthetic benchmarks (tests made up to measure performance). But if your main activity is gaming, those advantages don't matter.
AMD processors can also be a lot cheaper than Intel, so much so that it's better to buy an AMD even if you don't intend to play with its settings or use it for heavy non-gaming tasks. The idea is that you can get the next better AMD processor for the same price or even cheaper than the Intel you were considering, so even without any overclocking, performance is still going to be better.
This is not the case with the Alienware models I'm looking at. The i5-9600K is as good for gaming as a Ryzen 5 3600 and much better than a 3500X, and it's cheaper too. An i5-9400 is almost equal to a 3500X, and so much cheaper. So within the Alienware models, the choice seems simple: either spend much less and get a 9400, or spend a little more than that and get a 9600K.
Sims 4 won't ever use more power than a 9400 has, even if you're browsing the internet and editing your screenshots while playing. An i3-9100 would also be fine, except you might notice it slowing down in a few years. So if this is an investment for you, and you want to put off getting a new computer, the upgrade to a 9400 is worth the price. The 9600K is borderline worth the price: you won't need if for Sims 4, you probably wouldn't need it for Sims 5 (whenever it shows up), but you might like it for other games.

@puzzlezaddict Honest thank you for taking the time to answer my questions 🙂🙂
So machine in this link below is bettee to get?
is that also better than the currys one?
- puzzlezaddict6 years agoHero+
@Simsfan8989 That's way too pricey for the hardware. Instead, start with this one:
and apply the upgrades you want (the ones I listed before). I can walk you through them, if you like, but you'll end up saving a lot of money by starting here.
@puzzlezaddict What do you mean by to expensive for the hardware?
also (sorry questions again lol)The currys website is Intel® Core™ i7-9700 Processor = £1399
The dell website is Intel® Core™ i5 9600K = £1399
should I not go with the curry website since its a better intel core?
i understand what you mean with going with the one you linked but that was Intel® Core™ i5 9600K which is cheaper than the one I found on the dell website, however I want this PC to last and not have to have issues months or a year or 2 down the road.
Id rather spend an extra money to prevent worrying it isnt as good/fast as the currys one.
hope that makes sense.
you sound like you know more than I do, Im lost as its alot of money and I love the sims 4.
i just want the best I can get for around £100/£1300 max to enjoy and not worry about slow game or lags. I will only ever play the sims on it and checking the internet and watchinf youtube videos every now and again.
if I was to go with the currys website would it be silly? I just worry about picking the wrong one.
Me again sorry lol
I think this is good?
- puzzlezaddict6 years agoHero+
@Simsfan8989 What I mean is, instead of looking at premade options on Currys or the Dell website, you should choose the components you want—processor, graphics card, storage, memory if you're not comfortable installing more yourself—and then find the cheapest option that offers all those components for the cheapest price. The options on Currys are overpriced compared to what you could get on the Dell website, or at least the ones I looked at are overpriced.
You could get a stronger processor than a 9600K, sure, but you'll probably never notice the difference, not in two years, not in five years, unless you start playing other games. Even then, there aren't that many games that would benefit, and certainly Sims 5 wouldn't, let alone Sims 4. If your goal is to play Sims games for the next, say, five years, you won't need more than a 9400. If you'd like to pay the extra £90 for a 9600K and peace of mind, it may be worth it. Anything above that, and you won't get any benefit.
Please let me know whether you want to spend £100-150 on the newer case, as in, the one that looks like this:
https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/cty/pdp/spd/alienware-aurora-r9-desktop
or you'd rather save the money and go with the one that looks like this:
https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/cty/pdp/spd/alienware-aurora-r8-desktop
That's the first decision. Then let me know what processor you want, and we can go from there.
I do like the new case.
Is it the Intel-Core the most important thing to be high to play the sims 4? Or is the ram more important
- puzzlezaddict6 years agoHero+
@Simsfan8989 The memory is critically important for Sims 4 up to 8 GB, but more RAM after that won't help the game. It is nice to have though for other purposes, like heavy multitasking. The processor is also critical up to a certain level, but an i5-9400 is far above that level.
Thanks im statting to slowly understand more
which should I pick out of these...
or
Could you have a look at the both of the specs and tell me which is best for the sims 4.
thanks again for the help, i understand if you move on and get bored of answering
- 6 years ago
Thanks
- puzzlezaddict6 years agoHero+
@Simsfan8989 I'm not bored of answering, but I still think the answer is neither of these. You will save money and get the same components if you pick them yourself. For example, this one is £60 cheaper with all the same components as the first of the two you just linked:
But you really don't need to spend that much to get a great gaming PC for Sims. This is just so you can see the difference in price.
@puzzlezaddict But the intel core is lower?
- puzzlezaddict6 years agoHero+
@Simsfan8989 It has a 9600K, just like the first one you linked, or at least you can add one in.
@puzzlezaddict Would it be ok? Im going to buy it in the next few days
- puzzlezaddict6 years agoHero+
@Simsfan8989 It would be more than okay, especially with the upgraded components you want. Feel free to link me the configuration before you order, so I can look it over.
For what it's worth, you'd save £180 by going with the other case (same components as before):
But it's your call.
Hello 🙂
ive had a look,
what about this...
Please could you have a look at the specs I have changed and see if this is the best for what I want 🙂
- puzzlezaddict6 years agoHero+
@Simsfan8989 I think that's the same one as this, that you linked earlier:
except you added more RAM. Again, the processor is overkill for Sims 4 by far. Personally, I'd go with the much cheaper 9600K (in the option I linked) and either save the money or spend some of it on a better graphics card. The card in the link you just posted is an Nvidia 1650, which is fine, but the 1660 you were considering earlier is significantly faster.
@puzzlezaddict Thanks again 🙂
is this the one you would say is the best specs for me?
Does this have loads of area for more packs and future updates etc?
is this good for graphics to have it looking really good?
is this also going to run the smoothest?
I defo want this model but if possible you could help me to get the best specs on it. I dont mind over kill as I will want this to run very good and smooth for many many many years to come rather than worrying about updating it or worrying it mite slow down in a few months.
again thanks so much for helping me, i am looking into buying this tomoerow 🙂
- puzzlezaddict6 years agoHero+
@Simsfan8989 I still think this configuration is a much better use of your money:
Yes, the processor is slower, but it's still massive overkill for Sims 4 and in all likelihood Sims 5 as well. (It should still be more than fine for Sims 5, it just might not be massive overkill.) But for the same £1,349, you'd get a much faster graphics card, twice the RAM, and a 512 GB solid state drive, so you wouldn't have to worry about running out of space on the smaller 256 GB SSD. (Or you could save £10 and get this configuration with a 256 GB SSD/1 TB HDD if you wanted.)
The graphics card is really the most important factor here, more than the processor, more than the extra RAM or the storage. If you want to make sure your computer handles Sims games perfectly smoothly and without any compromises on graphics quality, that's the first place you should put your money.
Not to belabor the point, but I would feel bad if I didn't mention that the exact same hardware as above costs £1,179 with the older case. I know you like the new case better, I just have to say it so I don't feel like I'm neglecting to bring up something important.
i know im sucker for the look but I much prefer the new case.
I have edited the one I will buy tomorrow.
here is the link
could you please have a final look at it and make sure I have the best graphics ram and intel
i inow you say over kill but id much rather that than worry it not being the best. Hope you understand. 🙂
im so excited to play the sims again 🙂
update - i sent the wrong link please double check its the £1,499.00
- puzzlezaddict6 years agoHero+
@Simsfan8989 Yes, this model (updated link, £1,499) has all the features we talked about. It's certainly more expensive than it needs to be, but it sounds like you're comfortable paying a premium to get exactly what you want.
Thank you so much 🙂
really helped me pick this I really am thankfull.
last last question sorry lol @puzzlezaddict
is the graphic the best? You mentioned that being important?
