How can I freeze my sims in time while playing another family?

Hey guys.

I'm a bit late to the Sims 4 party but I'm mostly enjoying it so far. My main frustration is that if I play another family then come back to my main family they're always doing ridiculous stuff. I load into the kids wide awake, gaming at 2am, no homework done, nobody has been to school or work and all the appliances are broken.

I've figured out the auto age problem already but is there a way to freeze a house in time so it's exactly how I left it? (Without creating a new save, even that way has been unpredictable). I miss sims 2.
