How do I add string lights to porch railing / fencing?

Of course! Light strings are my fave holiday decoration for houses too. Find the Attic Stack Decoration Box in Build mode (or your household inventory possibly? I store mine there when not in use). Place the item on the floor and position so that your sim has access to the ‘front side’ (required for item commands to execute). From the primary menu, choose Select Holiday Decorations. A secondary menu populates with these 5 options: spandrels, eaves, fences, foundation, friezes. Choose fences and a window opens where you can visually examine your options and select one. That’s it for fences! Personally, I like the visual effect you get on fences from the light strings with ‘fringe’.

A few closing thoughts, which are technically suggestions for improving interface and streamlining multiple interactions, and which were framed as a communication to the EA creative braintrust (legacy Maxis *tiny tear*) and on behalf of players. I’m unaware of an appropriate mechanism for tagging EA. I hope the forum goddesses and gods will pass it on if they think it would be helpful. lol

• I have no idea what makes a frieze or a spandrel, much less have a working knowledge of the current lot features 
• Despite trying to self-educate by systematic testing. For some reason, associations don’t form and the info doesn’t stick. 
• All 5 option are always available, btw, regardless of how many are present on the lot at the time
• The interface is so clunky and repetitive that many players are almost certainly going to stop using this feature.
• Redesigning the interface would go a loooong way toward optimizing investments paid by both stakeholders (developers and players)
• FWIW: a highly simplified version of CAS would work perfectly

Trying to process all the craziness in the world lately, I’m totally not surprised your brain may be suffering from some mild indigestion. And  @keeeks88 - I love that you just owned it like a hipster in vintage threads! Spending some quality time focused on escapist pursuits is def recommended. Reigning as the all-powerful but benevolent master of your Sim World should clear up that excess brain gas faster than a cup of healthy green tea!

Clearly my brain is experiencing side effects too.  Cuz I’m pretty sure I just channeled the Spirit of Patch Notes Humor for a moment. What a missed opportunity for EA! lol. I’ve always been prone to take the path less travelled but clearly signposted Caution: Tangent Ahead. Lately, they’ve gotten more elaborate and even I’m surprised at some of the random material getting sampled from my memory bank lately. If that memory bank were like an album, I’d be in ‘deep cuts’ territory.

On the plus side, if my brain has to do some trauma management or implode, at least it’s found a scenic route that doesn’t bore and often amuses.
