How to manage multiple households at once

Hey everyone, I’m hoping I can find a solution to this inconvenience I’m experiencing.

So basically, I started with a family of 5 (2 parents and 3 children) and when the oldest child reached adulthood I moved him out and started his own family. So now there are 2 different households and I’m trying to play both because... I want to keep the families involved in each other’s lives? Sounds silly lol. Anyways, the initial family has 2 kids still and the guy that moved out family has 2 kids as well. I can’t seem to get both families to go to work or to school. Because if I’m playing one household the other household takes care of themselves but doesn’t complete tasks like going to school or going to work. Therefore it ruins their performance.

However, I don’t want to just play 1 household at a time. So if you have kids and they grow up and move out I have to chose between building their life or the parents?  I guess I really just want to know how to get 2 or more households to go to school/work without actually clicking the “go to work/school” option. It seems pretty silly to be able to play multiple households if you can’t get them all to go to school at the same time.

  • @christinasimsdeb, yes this is a problem.☹️  I get so frustrated with it that I rarely play a rotational save; I prefer to have each family as their own Save Game.  But with large families that grow up and move out, I realize that this is not ideal since you would want them to still be in each other's lives! 😞

    Its funny that you mention this because just yesterday someone else asked almost the same question: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Game-Information/Sims-aren-t-going-to-school/m-p/7868659#M12448

    As @jpkarlsen explained, this is just how the game is.  Your other Sims won't starve to death, but they will do all kinds of things while you are playing another house. 🤨😃 Most people manage it by switching back and forth often.  I don't even think there is a Mod out there that will help with this, but I don't know since I don't play with Mods.  (They are too much trouble for me because they require too much upkeep for my liking.) 😳  But it wouldn't hurt to look, if you aren't adverse to playing with them.  But I would just try to switch back and forth as much as you can to keep tabs on the entire family!

    Best of luck and Happy Simming! 😇

    @christinasimsdeb, that's alright --  it can't hurt to ask! 😉

    Edit: sorry about the double post.  something strange happened when I posted it ! 🤔

  • This is exactly what I've been wondering! It is so annoying!! Earlier versions of the SIMS allowed me to play multiple families and generations. It was fun to create stories. I've been trying to do the same with Sims 4 but it is so annoying! Kids don't go to school. No one takes care of the animals. What is the point of having children and grandchildren when you can't actually play them?
