To add to what @simsplayer818 has said, for the dates started with the new Create a Date option from Lovestruck: In addition to using the timer option and your date asking to extend a date, your active sim also has an option to ask their date to extend it. So, if the date doesn't ask, as some will do, you can have your active sim ask. I have yet to see a date say no so I'm pretty sure that you can make a date go on as long as what. I've found that the dates vary widely on how often then ask to extend. I have had dates that didn't ask at all and others that asked to extend several times including one date where the date kept asking and the date went over 24 hours, long after getting gold. I let it go on at first because I wanted to see how long the date would go on, but I ended up ending the date via the timer after it went over 24 hours.
@simsplayer818 Just FYI, if you haven't had time to look yet. Extend options on both the date and the active sims are not there on pre Lovestruck dates. I don't know about on the timer as I haven't checked that. One thing I really like with the Lovestruck date is once you hit gold, you can end the date anytime and still get the reward photo. With the pre Lovestruck dates, if you ended early even if you were at gold, you got nothing. That hasn't changed either.
Hope this helps.
I actually think it would be a useful tool if all in game events could be extended like the new Lovestruck dates. Because with issues out of our control sometimes we don't get to complete all the tasks. If you have interrupting Sims (which has been toned down but still continues) or if you have the dreaded unresponsive Sims, or tasks not checking off. You see that it's about to end and you're trying to get your Sim to move faster lol.
Dinner parties are a good example of an event that I'd really like to extend.
