Is there a size limit on the localthumbcache.package?

HI.  I have a huge collection of Sims 4 MODS, more than 61 gigabytes, 10,169 files to be exact and a powerful desktop to match.  My question is that it appears that once your localthumbcache.package reaches a size larger than 100 KB it resets itself.  This had been happening during game play.  Is there a limit on the size imposed by the game?

I have micromanaged all the MODS, they are all updated and I copied the thumbnails so they will show up on CAS for both genders. It took me a few months to do it with an editor but it speeds up my system tremendously not having to wait on thumbnails to be drawn by the game.  I don't get any errors during play at all because of my strict MODS maintenance. Thanks in advance! 8)

Found the problem.  Since I have very few MODs, I removed them one by one until I've found the one that was causing the problem.  Thank you all for the help!

It looks like you are confusing Mods and CC. Mods alters the way the game works. CC is things like clothes, hair, furniture and so on.

Localthumbcache. package is a cache file and will change size depending on what is in the last Save you played.

  • Correct, I said MODs in general, but almost all of my files are CCs.  The question is if there is a limit on the size of the localthumbcache.package?  I know what it is and what it does.  You can even look at its content with The Sims Studio package.  This cache is resetting after it reaches about 100KB, with no errors.  Is this normal?

Hasn't happened to mine. This is the current one:

I trashed it and re-loaded the game. The new one is 148kb. It will probably increase in size if I played for a while.

@SpookyDiver It is very unusual to have such a small localthumbcache.package. The size of the file depends, like @jpkarlsen already stated and @Bluebellflora proved, on the number of Sims you have in your save game and how and what you played. I have had saves localthumbcache.packages of over 100 MB and the current one is 43 MB at this time.

I play a rotational game with about 140 Sims in over twenty-five households in all the available worlds. I have all the packs and I also use some cc and mods. I frequently refresh the localthumbcache.package for no reason at all. I have never seen an automatic renewal of this file. But it if you claim it resets after it reaches about 100KB it could be due to the use of a modification that you might have installed.

    Have fun playing. 😉
