Issues with mermaid sims advancing through marine biologist career

The daily task for sims to complete when promoted to marine biologist is to 'survey ocean wildlife' but mermaids cannot complete this task, as "snorkeling is a taboo subject".. Mermaids could snorke...

I'm having the same issue. Very annoying. I'm trying to get around it by choosing to work from home, this can often get promotion without having to fulfill the daily task.
