Ladder Placement Issue

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.63.134.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Only the free Holiday Celebration Pack.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Attempt to place a ladder so that there are walls blocking the exit options on the back and right sides (relative to the sim when climbing the ladder). The right wall must be part of an additional room on that side.
What happens when the bug occurs? The ladder is not allowed to be placed, and the error message, "ladder top must be connected to a block or terrain" appears. The mirrored situation is allowed with no error message, however (walls blocking back and left, left wall part of additional room).
What do you expect to see? Ladders should be allowed to be placed in both configurations.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

As you can see from the attached screenshots, the ladder on the right was able to be placed, but the ladder on the left was not.

I tried to replicate what you show in your pics.  I couldn't.  Mine placed with no problem whatsoever.  I was in a brand new game with no cc or mods installed.  So I haven't a clue why yours are doing what they are doing.

I was able to place and rotate them in all 4 directions.  I did not need to use the MOO cheat either.  And I tried with both the base game ladder and new Eco Lifestyle ladder.  Both worked the same.  Mine also placed with windows on the back wall.

So my best guess is there is something else that can't be seen with the walls dropped that may be blocking the second ladder.  Maybe something wall mounted perhaps?  A roof intruding possibly but Idk.

Barring that, the only things that I can think of that may cause what is happening for you are basically long shots.  Either a corrupted file in which case a repair may fix it or some cc item or a mod which you will need to look for.

I do know of a least one older cc ladder that was decorative but that shouldn't interfere with a new game object but with cc you never know and it could be some completely different thing.

Sorry I couldn't help you further and I hope the above helps you solve the problem.

  • Sorry, I know this is old, but I'm having this same exact problem.

My game gives the same "must connect to block or terrain" error. And the ladder in question can't be placed when the back and right sides are blocked at the top, even though the left side is open.

There are no objects in the way (wall or floor), and I can't even place it with MoveObjects active. When I removed the wall blocking the right side at the top the ladder could be placed. But adding the wall back deletes the ladder. (again, both with and without MoveObjects)

If it matters, the ladder goes through two levels of basement to the ground floor. And I'm not sure when it stopped working but I built the house that way in the past with no problem, I was remodeling and could not put the ladder back where it had been.

@PorcelainMartlet could you attach a screenshot of the situation? I think I had a similar situation with several of my houses.

May be it could be part of the changes that were brought into the game after the platforms were introduced. The platforms also altered the situation in the uunder ground levels of a lot. I.e. when you build your house before this situation, placing a basement did not effect the underground. In the new situation it does. It could well be that you have to rebuild the house from the basement level upwards. But with a visual of your situation I will able to compare it.

    Thanks in advance.
