^^ THIS ^^
@jpkarlsen I've seen other theories in other forums but yours is the best answer by far! Thanks :D
- Sid1701d96 years agoSeasoned Ace@SisterGloomy I studied the gate system most can be opened with higher archalogy, there was one gate I was having trouble with my sim had level 10 and 9 archology, but I couldn't get the last gate open. It opened with the culture skill. So most gates are unlocked by archology there is 1 gate that opens with the culture skill. Which one I am not telling because that would be too munch of a Spoiler.

Please see my answer for the correct explanation. It is completely random which of the blocked passages will be accessible on each vacation. If a particular gate is blocked. end the vacation and start a new vacation hoping that it will be open this time.
Archaeology skills determine how long it takes to excavate something, How valuable things there are found and the ability to establish a dig site that gives more items.
Selvadoradian culture skills influence what you can buy at the market and the likelihood that you will succeed in encounters in the jungle. It does not unlock any of the blocked passages.
I've been at the jungle like 15 times. Full skill in culture and archaeology. The gate before the long bridge is always blocked.

@SisterGloomy What you describe does happen to others. It's happened to me. It took me 5 trips for a household to get into one of the gates. For other households, it didn't take but 2 trips to get into all the gates. It IS random and it just works out that way sometimes. The temples work the same way. Sometimes I get the same temple twice in the same trip and it takes more trips to get the other variations. There are 5 different ones altogether. So just be patient and keep trying. You will get into that gate eventually.

I went into there tons of times and I couldn't get the gate open that is at the pool above the falls. The gate was locked and I hovered over the locked gate, it said culture not high enough to access this gate. That is the only gate that is tied to the culture skill the rest are just random. I spent 100 vacations trying to figure out the gate system it wasn't until I had a higher culture level the gate would unlock. I don't want to say what is in it because that would be a spoiler but the place is lovely and romantic.
Edit: I was able to get all gates open except that gate. I went into the area and hovered over the locked gate, tooltip read, skill not high enough to access gate. I had level 9 and 10 archeologist, so I was wondering why it said skill not high enough to access gate. I got to think about the culture skill. As soon as I raised my culture skill I talked to a local, did you find the secret place past the pool its quite romantic. I am not one hundred percent sure if the words are exactly right since I have not been there for a while, because DU seems to not allow rotational play for some reason, and won't let you go on vacation in middle of term. The fact holidays don't work in DU kinda really makes me angry. Most schools have a break between classes.

With "pool" I take it you mean the "Omiscan bath". I just had a new family visit Selvadorada and both the portal to the bath and the portal to the other area in the bath was accessible. Pure luck.
