Carl1701D Are you seeing an error code 123? If so, it's a known issue:
The problem seems to be tied to stuck events on the lot in question. So bringing your sims to a different, unaffected lot allows you to load them. Changing the lot type of the affected lot to generic or residential will remove the stuck events, but the problem may recur.

In each case, I'd suggest keeping an eye on the bug report in question for workarounds or a possible fix in a future patch.
