My Sim disappears after moving them into a dorm with another student

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.61.15.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All of them
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? To find the bug, enroll into university and move into a dorm with a student that is already living in a dorm. I don't know if the bug still occurs if the sims moves in a dorm alone.
What happens when the bug occurs? When the bug occurs, my sim is literally gone from the entire world.I had to exit to the main menu without saving just to get my sim back.
What do you expect to see? My sim should be able to move into a dorm with a student and still be in a household and not disappear from my game completely like they didn't exist.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. I never had this issue before until i updated my game and played with university again.

I don't have extra information.

  • @iKyonii Do you have a backup ? Does it happen again if you try again (preferably without mods installed) ?

I figured out that there was an outdated mod in the folder which caused a bug.

  • I am having the same issue! What outdated mod was causing it?

When using mods of any kind it is always a good idea to check with the creator for updates.
When your game is not acting as expected you can test to see if mods or cc are the cause.
The simplest way is to do the following steps:
Rename your The Sims4 folder in Documents\ElectronicArts to The Sims4_Backup
That will preserve all your saves and content so nothing is lost.
Test with a new save game without putting anything back to see if the issues are still there.
If the game works correctly you will need to test your mods /custom content (CC).
When adding/testing/deleting mods and/or cc it is important to delete the localthumbcache.package and any other cache files.
Using the 50/50 method is suggested to speed up the process.
