Off the grid

I am not sure if this is a bug or not, but I feel like the off the grid functionality is just off. Here's an example - I have one fridge, and no other appliances that use electricty. This fridge is functional off the grid (the one from cottage living). I then get a rooftop solar panel so i can use my mobile phone. 

Why do I keep getting notifications on the top right that I have used up all my electricity? This is happening like every minute (real time). In theory the fridge should not be using it (i am adding ice and can see it slowly depletes). is the fridge using the electricity? or is one solar panel not even enough to power a phone?

In another scenario, if I want enough power to supply a small house of regular appliances, i need like 8 wind turbines and they have to be the floor-standing ones as the roof ones don't cut it. I think there is something really eating up the power usage?

Playing on PC with no mods and my game is fully up-to-date FYI.

    do you have the same issue on any lot ?

    Do you get the same message when you have no appliances on the lot for testing ?

    I'm not really an off-the-grid player so maybe someone else can help you further.

    You need to click on the fridge and choose to turn off utility usage, otherwise as soon as there’s any power it will use it.
